THE ROGUE SERIES: PART THREE
The Series ~~> [link]

#1- The Rogue Standard, circa 1991. This costume accompanied the premiere of the new X-Men comic series, penciled by Jim Lee, in which Rogue becomes a member of the team’s Blue strike force. Originally used for about 6 years or so, this is probably Rogue's most familiar outfit, as it is also the one incorporated into the hit FOX animated X-Men series. I think this is the version of Rogue that most of us got to know first, and it's the one that seems to most endure.

#2- I did a version of the Standard Rogue look without her accessories because it was never really commonly seen. In fact it took forever to find a reference for this one, but here it is.

#3- I didn't want to get distracted doing too many ‘street clothes’ versions of Rogue, but I did want to do this one, Jim Lee's evening wear design, for two reasons. One was that I wanted to draw the skirt and netting for practice. The other was that it's worn for a very important plot point for Rogue's character: Her first date with Gambit (or attempt at one, anyway), which takes place in X-Men #4, circa 1992.

#4- During Joe Madureira's Uncanny X-Men run, a group of the X-Men were sent into space to help the Shi'ar (why they helped I have no idea, the Shi'ar are pricks). In Uncanny #342 Rogue acquired this Shi'ar mining suit, complete with low-grade force field (which was never, as far as I recall, actually incorporated into a plot line). Following the team's return to Earth, she kept the costume for some time, alternating between it and a slightly altered version of her original green costume (as seen in Part One). I never cared for this outfit much, but I think it's just because it's pink. Way, way too pink.

The green-and-gold bomber jacket look is still what I think of when I think of Rogue to this day. It's more for what she was like when she was wearing it: strong, sassy, tormented, but still able to have fun and be herself from time to time. This was the period where Rogue was one of my all-time favorite X-Men...at least before she lost her shit, left Gambit to die in Antarctica, and then spent years in a really, REALLY horrible place, both personality- and power-wise.
