THE PSYLOCKE SERIES: PART TWO
*May contain spoilers.*
The Series ~~> [link]
#1- In October 1986, Betsy made her American Marvel Comics début in NEW MUTANTS ANNUAL #2. She was abducted to Mojo-World, where she was brainwashed and given purple cybernetic eyes that acted as cameras. Mojo gave her the new name Psylocke and turned her life into a hit reality show. The New Mutants rescued Betsy and brought her to Westchester. After protecting the New Mutants at the mansion from Sabretooth during the Mutant Massacre story arc, Psylocke officially joined the X-Men team in UNCANNY X-MEN #213. I still think this costume looks like pajamas. And the straps from the wrists seem very impractical. But hell, I’m not the one who had to wear it.
#2- After being killed and resurrected (what, already?) Psylocke decided she was too vulnerable in a fight, and began wearing this heavy-duty body armor and chain mail cape, circa 1988. The X-Men then relocated to Australia for a good long time, until Betsy had a precognitive vision of their deaths, and convinced/forced/tricked all of them to go through the Siege Perilous, some bullshit magic thing given to her by Roma that would give them all new lives. Look, I’ve read these “Siege Perilous” issues and they make no fucking sense whatsoever. If I’d been in charge and Claremont brought me this crap, I would’ve fired him so damn fast. The whole thing was stupid, and I don’t wanna talk about it anymore. (UNCANNY X-MEN #’s 249-251)
To be continued...

Pink poofy thing! I love/hate that thing so much. Only in comics, amirite?
I do appreciate the costume from the waist up -- the rectangle pattern, the HUGE off-the-shoulder sleeves, and the streamers are all very cool and flowy, they make her look like a sorceress of some kind. It's just from the waist down that I start having problems...like the fact that this is a one-piece without any sort of color deviation except for the decorations. And as much as I like the ribbing on the sleeves, it doesn't look nearly as cool on her legs. If this had had some darker colors, purple or blue or black, to break up the monotony, I might have liked it A LOT better.
But then we get to the Australian/Inferno armor and I realize this is where I seriously LOVED Psylocke as a character. Her attitude during this period was VERY morally grey. She was willing to do things other telepaths wouldn't to get the job done, and this was YEARS before Emma Frost joined the X-Men. I almost feel like her turning into an actual ninja was a downgrade; she used her powers like a ninja more in the armor than in her swimsuit.
