It's been a few weeks since my last outburst, and yeah, I haven't taken down much beyond the commissions that I didn't make myself. As I stay abreast of developments on Twitter, I have to say my feelings for AI art generation haven't changed - if anything, they've only been galvanized. When the plague of NFTs and AI art generators was starting, it quickly became obvious that the people behind them were grabbing art from any place on the web that was hosting it, without as much as a by your leave or a thank you. dA was essentially a vault just waiting to be picked cleaned. In real terms, there is no way to protect an image that you have posted on the web from being downloaded and saved. The whole point of posting an image to the web is to make it available at a particular address, and the whole point of a web browser is to have a means of transferring the data of web objects to another computer. Once that data has moved, redirecting it to a new file is child's play, regardless of the protections you think you've put on them. If you're worried about digital copying, then your only recourse is to make sure your image is never seen on the internet at all, or given to anyone else that will upload it.
