Still Moments before Sunrise by Saraty Still Moments before Sunrise by Saraty
A Christmas present for my two Latvian friends Uldis and Maija. I am very, very happy that they both liked this drawing, it is certainly one of my favorites I did so far.

The concept of this image is taken from a very famous and well known Latvian artist / children's book illustrator - Margarita Staraste. She is over 90 years old now. I found this painting in my monthly calendar (designed by her). I already asked my mom (since Im not in Riga atm), to buy a new calendar for 2012. Im so impatient to see her new, amazing art....

Acrylic on hard wood 15 x 15 cm.
Drawn in November 2011.

It's gorgeous! I love how the little house looks like a gingerbread house, covered in icing XD
The tiny bunnies are adorable too~!

I love the soft colors and the way they fade from warm to cold towards the bottom. Great use of the rule of thirds and nice placement of the house in the artwork. The asymmetrical balance works very well here!

As I was looking through the Exchange gallery, this painting really caught my attention. I love the round curves and lack of sharp corners because it helps the painting look cute and cozy, despite the winter theme. (Also, bunnies everywhere! Are they protecting the house, perhaps? Or on their way to lay siege? ;)) The pinkish tone at the top of the painting makes it seem like warmth is hitting the house. I know the occupants of that cottage are going to wake up warm and cozy, with a beautiful view surrounding them :meow:

A fantastic painting. I love the colour palette, the pine trees, stars, and bunnies; it is really magical and well fit for a storybook.

Regarding improvements, the house could have been smaller, given the perspective and the size of the pine trees. Also, the greenish window doesn't really fit into the rest of the palette. But these are only minor things.

You are a great artist, and this is an instant fav. :)

A very somber use of colors that add a very calming and gentle feeling to this piece. I would suggest working out on the finer details of the trees in the landscape as it would really help sculpt the personality of the piece into a more refined state. :)

This is so pretty! I love the warmth it gives, even though it's winter. And all those bunnies and stars hidden around are so cute too.

Beautiful scene! I like the transition from warm to cool colors, and the way you drew the trees (they look so soft! :D ) And of course the bunnies are a nice touch. :aww: I love this!
