The Riddler by saramarconato The Riddler by saramarconato
He is one of my favourite Batman villains. Here he is drawn as a young man, without exaggerated nerdy traits or the ridiculous suits I have seen in some comics and tv, for my personal stylistic choice. I am going to draw a comic cover with him and maybe Batman soon...

Cool, look forward to seeing what you come up with. Will Batman be younger as well? Kind of like the DC Universe as teens?

Hi. First of all, thank you for your appreciation :D Well, for DC characters as teens there are just Teen Titans and Super Hero Girl DC :p Joking aside, no. I wanted to draw a younger version of the Riddler. In comics and movies (even in the Arkham video game series who is my favourite version), he is pictured like a mature man, maybe in his 40s. I liked the idea of him as a young man, between his 20s and his 33rd. A young talent just graduated from university with a future as a successful scientist. Maybe working for Wayne Industries, as Riddler's Jim Carrey. At the end, it is only a personal choice for Edward Nigma's character.

I also like the Arkham version as well, my favorite though is probably John Glover's from the Animated series.

I see what you mean, it makes more sense for him to have the ego that he does being a fresh out of college. But when you think about it, the fact that he is in his forties in those other adaptations, and still has these complexes makes him a bit more of a petty type of person, but more freighting the idea that instead of the wisdom that comes with age, he is so deranged that he cannot let things go, and is willing to eliminate those who stand in his way. He seems almost tragically obsessed with outsmarting everyone especially Batman. The older he gets the more creepy he becomes.

Well that's kind of a theory anyway as to why he maybe older more often.

Well, personally I don't believe that wisdom came with age. Sometimes that is true, but when I see in every day life some fourty or fifty years old men acting like teens...They are really frightening o.0 Maybe our friend Riddler has that syndrome, too, why not...But we have also to consider that he is a comic villain (he could be considered the stereotype of mad scientist in Batman world) with the clichè of the category.
I am not against the fourty man version, I have only tried to make him younger to see how he could have been looked like :D
