Blandoptera - I by Sanrou Blandoptera - I by Sanrou

More Airsharks for you all:

Orbualus summulancea AN.

O. summulancea is a high altitude-flying predator specialized in hunting other flying creatures. They can ascend up to 13,2 kilometers of altitude to scan for lower-flying prey and then dive at high speed to pierce its target with its front limbs that act like a pair of spears. S. summulancea is usually found alone or in pairs;

Stellapulmo incoalutum AN.

S. incoalutum is an ambush predator that lives in the riverbanks of the Eden Valley. They hunt in groups by staying still atop/in between of rocks alongside rivers, waiting for small animals that approach to drink/breath water and then investing in a quick fly and snatch game;

Bialavisqualus bibrachium AN.

B. bivbachium are strong and agile predators that lives and hunt in packs, similar to wolves, and usually are encountered at the lowest parts of the Tiamat Mountains. They hunt and eat pretty much whatever terrestrial thing they can kill by piercing and scraping with its frontal limbs. Also, they appear in the background of this piece.

I know I have said it before but I just have to praise your lifelike designs once more!
Despite being completely alien and otherworldly, there is a very real and tangible feel to them that makes them appear like real animals

I love the idea of these flying critters! Anu's version of chinese dragons, in the sense that they can fly and have those flimsy, serpentine bodies.. certainally very alien! :)

Do blandopterans roost or land, and if so, how?

Their limbs are the delicate "appendages" on the wings (yes, they LOOK too fragile for its size, bo they do work). When they land (usually in trees) their wings are folded to the back   ^^

I suppose the gravity on Anu is less than earth.

Yep, it's about 20% of Earth's gravity

Excellent concepts - I love your use of vibrant colors. Anu is really starting to take shape.

Any plans to do more scenic pieces like "Morning Sun"?

Your aliens are so beautiful and lifelike! I am in love with Bialavisqualus; it's like a cross between a snake, a praying mantis and a flying fish with an extra dose of creativity :D
