TALES Shorties: The Dragon Knight

Sir Sakkano’s teal cloak fluttered against the cold breeze from atop the tallest cliff that overlooked the vast rising and falls of the snow crested wooded hills and sheer drops of chasms below. Only one spot stood out from these hostile lands: The castle of King Rood. It stood over the treeline and ran against the neverending black chasm the fed into the Endless Deep. Oh how Sir Sakkano despised the evil of that King; but no more. Tonight his evil reign of thievery and cruelty would end.    “Are we going?” Sakkano didn’t turn to face his draconic steed. A puffin, to be more exact. It was hard enough for her kind to find work as it were; the lack of any opposable thumbs tended to make most jobs more difficult, but she managed to make do. She was still far more marketable than those drakes who had to vanish for almost half the year to hide from the weather, and she knew that was a big leg up for her.     With the joyous laughter of her coworkers fading away already, she was nearly the la

“Run faster this time,” Anna demanded from Sanny’s backside as she readjusted her seating for their next charge. The saddle they had gotten fitted for the drake made any attempt for prolonged riding or games even possible, and the group was using it to their full advantage. Sam stood ready nearly thirty feet away with Twisty on his back. Both girls had helmets on and both wielded a big pillow for smacking purposes.     It was the time of the year when the bitter cold had made its retreat just in time for Sanny to emerge from his long sleep, and before the assaulting heat of summer drove Sam away to his cave for his own

As a result, it was a bit overgrown with weeds and other local flora that the travelers had to cut through just to make any sense of progress. The brown bear was leading the way; an ostensibly large creature wearing a red flannel shirt and jeans that stood at least a head over everyone else and whose width created a path alone.      The only light coming into the room was emitted from the old action movies displayed on the television. It lit the room in a cascade of dull colors in rapid successions of the explosion palette. The two bats watching this splendor were lazily sprawled out on top of one another on the couch. This was one of Myst's ideas to help teach his friend the common language, even if it wasn't very effective. His head was curled under his foretalons to hide himself away from the gaze of the crowd, yet it still couldn't take away the unease and panic that raged through his system. It was as if his fears were a child let loose in a candy store. It was safe to say he would pass on any future visits. The drake had tried to rationalize this fear, as every non dragon he cared about had reassured him he would be safe, and as of now they weren't wrong. Yet still he couldn't shake the feeling. Meticulous detail was spent on his appearance today, for he was expecting company. His fur was groomed far above his already high standards, and his clothes were delicately pressed. It was amazing how soft he could be if he put enough effort into his hygiene, not that he was a dirty creature to begin with. Now Ryne on the other hand.... "Ryne, are you ready?"     "Stop talking!"       "Gather 'round, children, gather 'round," the brown bat said to the many, many children that were already crowding around the fire that illuminated this section of the cave. Most had dropped down from the ceiling, while the rest were those already anticipating the impending event. It was story time for these little tykes, as it always was when dawn rolled around. The earliest ones took the best seats on the rocks while the ones in back didn't hesitate to push their way closer. The fire was one of many scattered throughout the cave system that housed hundreds of these brown bats. The speaker was sitting on a small rock that elevated him

This Deserves a Journal, I Think

So, I'm not a terribly open dragon, but I think this is comment-worthy. Earlier this month I have gotten married to AnnaKlava (https://www.deviantart.com/annaklava). We took a trip to the courthouse and then my parents took us to the casino. Was a fun day. Being married is nice. That is all.

With spring around the corner, I have myself a new commission idea. Maybe I'll also get close to finishing a freaking story. Hopefully the new apartment provides a change of environment needed to spur some writing.
