Custom Hazel Gundam by sandrum Custom Hazel Gundam by sandrum
I built this Hazel model from the basic frame of the GM Quel. It wasn't bad at all and it didn't take nearly as long as it usually takes for me to build one of these things. The polygon count isn't too bad either, but the more booster shields that I add, the worse my computer handles the rendering portion. So this is a nice, bland image just to show that it's done. If I can ever get to the Zeta Gundam then maybe I can put together a decent scene.

Software: Lightwave 3D v8.3 (for the model), Macromedia Freehand (for the logos)

Gundam is (c) Sunrise/Bandai/Sotsu Agency

I've always been a fan of Gundam since the 80s. Sadly the story went down with stupid little kids, acting like war veterans but there is still something about Gundam that totally drive me nuts: Mechas Design :)
Let me say that your design doesn't lack anything from the official ones, they are even better

Man I love this model! Got a kick out of reading the text on the larger caution stickers. Also strained my right eye. Blah. Also remembered I sucked at painting guns so I'm probably going to end up soaking the Beam Rifle in some window cleaner and scrubbing off the paint.

Yeah, I iz the dumb one. *sigh*

Love it. But what's with the beam SMG (that's what I decided it is,)?

LOL! Nah, it's only a beam rifle. It's design is "close" to the design of one of the rifles used by the Quel and GM custom. The structure underneath/front is the rifles magazine. It doesn't actually have any sensors that would give it smart beam ability. For all intents and purposes it's just a "made for grunts" weapon.

Yeah, it would have been nice to see. I HEAR from some people that it's in the Zeta movies (very briefly) that just came out, but I've not seen it myself.

As sad as this may be, I just recently, about june, actually. I immediately fell in love with it though, and ordered the model kit from gundam shop.com, I had to have it. I think it's quite the rendering, I like it. And I'm curious, where may one get 3D rendering and design software?

I ordered mine, but I'm guessing software shops sell 3d software (probably near the adobe stuff). Students get discounts at certain shops too, so if you're one you could try asking your school. :D

Pretty much everything I've modelled in lightwave has a plastic version that's commercially available. Just have to look for it. ;)

um, I mean that they are available from the manufacturer...not me :p

very nice custom design. It has a rather bulky look to it, but its nicely created. Is it a speed variant or are those hefty boosters on the legs simply show for the idea?

AAaaa...wish it was my own design. The leg boosters are definately for increased speed. Other optional add-on equipment like the HRUDUDU allows much faster "hit and run" kind of speed. I have to say that I was intrigued by the leg boosters at first....

oh yea, I totally forgot about that variant. How long have you kept track of mahq? Did you know about it before, when it was Mechadomain?

Nah, I had only gotten into Gundam and all that related stuff in the last year, which is when I found Mahq. It's a nice resource, but sometimes a little slow in updating things (when I've found answers in other places).

Very true, its indeed quite slow, and it doesn't help that they already have so much info from the past. As for me, I've been a big time gundam expert for the last six years, back when Wing aired on Cartoon Network. After it aired, I started looking stuff up on the internet and eventually stumbled into the whole Gundam franchise. I've kept up with it ever since, although I'm also big into anime in general.
