A Conversation and a CorpseTitle: A Conversation and a Corpse
Universes (Crossover): Batman and Neil Gaiman's Sandman
Rating: PG (to be safe)
Warnings: Angst, a corpse
Author's Note: Batman's natural desire to help has unforeseen consequences. This is my entry for the Crossover Contest, and my first crossover.
The copse lay amidst the alley clutter, unmoving, while the first spots of rain splattered on his Armani suit. The night buried him in shadows, the distant streetlights barely illuminating him. Thin rivulets of blood, black in the weak light, pasted down a few graying tufts of hair. His head bent backwards at an angle no living person could achieve. Knowing the futility of it, Batman still reached over and checked for a pulse.
Looking at the dead never got any easier. It was ugly, no matter how peaceful the passing may have been. Yet still, Batman crouched besides the unmoving form, gently closing the man's eyes. The rain pattered against his hood and cape while he stood his silent vi
Delight, who turned into Delirium..."Do you know why I stopped being Delight, my brother? I do. There are things not in your book. There are paths outside your garden...Coins have two sides. Destruction told us that, when he left us...But I knew it already"
Brief lifes, Neil Gaiman
Delirium is one of the characters that appears in the graphic novel the Sandman (by terrific Neil Gaiman, bow to him). She is the youngest sister in the Endless family. Their eldest brothers and sisters are: Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire and Despair. They are not Gods, but could be described as anthropomorphic personification of the concepts they refer to, although they also are the concept themselves. For those of you who didn't read the comic-books, the story turns around Dream, also called Oneiros or Morpheus or dozen of other names. And the plot was summarized by its creator like this: "The Lord of Dreams learns that one must change or die, and makes his decision."
Delirium, together with Death, are the characters that readers
MorpheusIn my sleepless slumber I lay
Never forgetting the perils of day
I open my eyes and count the cracks in the ceiling
Within me there's a sick, dreadful feeling
Whispers emit from the indomitable darkness
Dreadful memories return like a ghastly carcass
I toss and turn as my mind burns with the demons of my past
Tangled in a web of desires, how long will this insomniac last?
My body ceases to rest if my soul is not at ease
Even my own shadow seems to lash out at me
Dear Morpheus, where are you, controller of dreams?
Chase away my nightmares and sing me to sleep

What is The Sandman?
The Sandman is a comic book series written by Neil Gaiman and published in the United States by the DC Comics imprint Vertigo. It chronicles the adventures of Dream of The Endless, who rules over the world of dreams, in 75 issues from 1989 until 1996.
The Sandman was one of Vertigo's flagship titles, and is available as a series of ten trade paperbacks. It is also being reprinted in a recolored four-volume oversized hard cover edition with slipcase. Critically acclaimed, The Sandman was the only comic to ever win the World Fantasy Award, and the only comic book to ever be on the New York Times Bestseller List. Norman Mailer described the series as "a comic book for intellectuals."
The Sandman's main character is Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, who is essentially the anthropomorphic personification of dreams. At the start of the series, Morpheus is captured by an occult ritual and held prisoner for 70 years. Morpheus escapes in the modern day and sets about rebuilding his kingdom.
