Play Your Heart Out by Samwich Play Your Heart Out by Samwich
Right when I was about to go to bed, the main titles for the Spiderman movie came on, and I was almost instantly brought to tears. Then I put on another piece I played in 10th grade, that put me to tears even as I played it, which helped me with this picture... [link] (not by my band)

The reason is because my band at my old school played that song...and...of course, I moved to Nevada, and was unable to take band due to needing credits badly. So my french horn pretty much sits in my room and rots, since I can't play it indoors due to moving to an apartment..

God, band was everything to me since 4th grade. Minus 7th grade, but once I joined back into band I loved it even moreso.
And once I got into high school it gained a much more sentimental value to me. I gained a family. I was never always treated the best, and there has undoubtably been loads of band drama, but in the long run, it was one of the best experiences of my life. I witnessed things I never in my life saw like I did in band. Love, growth, change, death, more emotions than I've ever seen anywhere else.
And I miss it...
a lot. I'd give anything to put on my concert clothes and put together one last performance with the Lynbrook band. Not just the marching band, but the concert bands.

Working hard to achieve these exact videos:

among other amazing concerts that have been put together in the years...

I'll stop ranting, because I'm dead tired and emotional.
But band, and playing my french horn...
I love it even more than drawing...
*sigh*...I'll shut up and go to bed now.

...and I know the french horn looks terrible, haha. they're hard enough from side view, but that angle was even harder. so I just threw it together

p.s. if anyone watches the videos, don't diss on the conductor. say what you want about the band (like obvious french horn flaws rofl), but not doc. he's like a second father to me. god, the day I had to leave school I clung to him and sobbed in front of people.

aww sad :c i play clarinet in my band, but im quitting next year, the whole band has gone out of purpose and most of the people don't even care, so i've lost the muse and feeling that i had for band when i first signed up

I love the way you draw paws, I try to imitate them sometimes so I can get a feel for how to draw them but it just doesn't work...
This picture looks kind of depressing but I like it. It's cute and I love the tail. I could never do something like that, lol. ^-^

Aww, that stinks terribly. :/ I play marimba, xylo and all of those mallet keyboards mostly. And I love my marimba. I'd hate to give it up D: This is my senior year, so I'll be sad to go too :/

But very inspiring piece of artwork. I love your shading style. *patpat*

Looking back at this from the last time I looked at it, it STILL makes me shudder. It inspires me so much, and so much emotions and passion jumps out from it.

This has go to be my most favorite peice of art you've done. ^^

oh my... ;-;

I know what you mean about band... im only a sophomore and have cried thinking of the life ill have to ordeal with out it in a few years...
French horn... my goodness... *hugs my baby* Best instrument ever.. Such pretty sound... and so fun... *sigh* i love it.

Pieces of music have made me tear or feel very emotional... i feel kinda weird when it happens.. but i know it should because it shows how amazing a peice or music can be...

This picture makes me want to cry.... lucky you starting in 4th.. i had to start in 6th...

Band makes you a better person.. it really does.. and being a french horn player add to that... all french horn/mellophone players i meet are all the same... such fun enthusastic people... They are caring and such good people... at our marching compititions ever time we are going to the gate the last band while leaving the mellos yell "MELLO'S ROCK~!" and "Good luck my horn-y brethren"(twas the most awesome thing that day)

hehe.. you dun know me... and i just left a long comment but still... <3

Aw . . . that's just . . . beautiful. I play French Horn, and I love it. I just moved to a new school this year, and gosh do I miss my old band, but you gotta love the instrument.

Maybe you can get one of those electronic mutes that transmit the sound into headphones, so you wont disturb your neighbors. I'm not sure how much they cost, though . . .

were able to have experiences with them for a while.
You did a wonderful job with the french horn. The colors,
the pose.. everything is just fantastic, Sam. <3

Band definatly has been one of the best things I've done for my life in a long time. I really feel bad though, I would die without band - let alone when the marching season is done I practicly die anymore. My dreams are to either become a professional trombonist or music educator (like a band director). I love playing my instrument more than life itself...and of course the music community is truely amazing.

I hope that someday soon, you can find a way to get back to it. I don't like seeing people sad, even when I know I can't help...but still....

Band is one of the best things I ever went through. I would have played all through junior high and would still be playing it in high school now but my parents sold my flute for drug money, they were horribly addicted and said that my flute was broken because they accidentaly did something to it, but they pawned it. It is horrible giving up band, I played from the 4th grade to the 6th grade until the whole pawning episode. I wish I still played, everyone in band class was like a family. One of the kids in class crashed his bike and hithis head on the curb and had a seizure and was inthe hospital and some of us dcried. We were very close and knew eachother well. This is a very lovely peice of art and I hope you get to play the french horn outside of school on your own time. It may not be the same as being in band, but at least you have memories of how wonderful it was.

A very cute pic! I love it, mostly because of what you say it means to you. I play French horn actually, too, and I wouldn't give up my band experiences for the world. I love those songs that bring tears to your eyes just by listening to them. It's amazing how much music can touch a person's heart.

Gah, eegads! The French Horn is my dream instrument to play, after the Trumpet and Euphonium. But I just joined band (never join it a year before you get out of highschool... that's the worse thing you could ever i'm pretty much a 6th grade junior in band.haha) Anyway, yeah, now I'm playing the Flute.

Gomen, gomen. Yesh this is amazing! I love how you drew this. I shall fav this cause I'm totally amazed by your awesomous power with drawing instruments. ^^;

I totally understand... Joining band was possibly the best decision I've ever made. Music can really change you. Not to mention the people you get to associate with!

I hope you get a chance to play your horn again. I'm not taking any music classes this next semester, and seeing as marching season is just about over... I'll be baritone-less until August :cries:

KyokoMakashiro Featured By Owner Nov 22, 2007
I can identify completely with you here. I had to leave behind a lot of the bandos I had played together with to go to another school, where I thankfully joined marching band and found another family of bandos. Still, it hurt so very much in the beginning to leave them new bandos are a great bunch and are all kinds of awesome, but it wasn't quite the same.

I played french horn in middle school, but quit when i got to high school, because my parents thought it was going to become too demanding. And I was an idiot. It's so sad; I live really close to the high school so I can hear them play almost everynight, and I just wish I could be apart of the music again.

My french horn and yours could probably swap some stories. Mine has been sitting idle in my spare bedroom for nearly two years now. I haven't even taken it out of the case to clean and oil! It must hate me now. I truly, truly love this picture because it's done very well and because it evokes such sad and wonderful memories.

oh my god you guys are soo awsome!!!! our band is nothing compared to that! geese that was soo entertaining! i love the superhero one haha its like a whole show! i would watch it over and over man! you guys rock! although you may not be in band anymore that dosent mean your not a bando(term are school useses for band people who rock!) *sappy music plays* you still have the heart of a bando ^3^ and knowone could ever take that away from you...okay that was really sappy but its true!
Samwich Featured By Owner Nov 21, 2007  Hobbyist Digital Artist
We use the term bando as well. XD <3 and aww, thanks! That's actually just a fraction of our band program, because our school is divided up into 3 bands, and I was in the Wind Ensemble my Junior year.
AND HEE, YES, the shows are a total blast to do. Pops concerts are just the little dedication to the seniors, and the seniors get to partake in a skit of awesome. Sadly I left my senior year >: But I got to play in those videos, which was fine. <3 Glad you liked them, and thanks!
Of course being a band geek never leaves you xP I still shout random theory things I notice in songs, like "OH LAWD, IS THAT A Bb MAJOR SCALE I HERD?" and teaching people how to read sheet music :B

I know how you feel. Band is like a family, and it hurts to leave them. I had to move away from a band I loved right before I went into highschool, but I did gain a different family instead the next year, and am still in band. I play the french horn too. I feel for you.

:c I feel guilty now. Im in band and I dont really want to play. And to hear a story like this...its just so sad knowing that I can easily be in bad and not enjoy it when other people cant and they really want to....
Samwich Featured By Owner Nov 21, 2007  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Oh no, don't feel bad XD I've met a lot of people in the 'family' who have little to no passion for band itself, but have grown too attached to the people in it to let it go. My band is slowly dying, and before I knew I was moving I was pretty close to quitting marching band and just play in regular band class. Because I hung out with the band kids on a daily basis anyways xP

He's actually a good conductor. He's got precision and flow.

Ours sits there and raises their hands to look like they are conducting.

Anyway, I really like this piece. :C I didn't know you played the french horn (I typed horse instead of horn just now..) and to see that you can have such a strong emotion for what you did/do, then I give mad kudos.

This is incredibly moving...

I had something like that in school.. I cried almost every night for months after I had to leave it. x.x It's impossible to not be sad when we think about things that we miss so dearly.. but I personally believe that because we miss them so much, they have made a very positive impact on our lives.. ::Shrugs a bit..::

Awww, this is so great Sam. You did a great job with the French horn. =D

My friend plays the french horn, she's pretty good. I think she's using the mellophone for the marching part right now. ^^;

I used to be in band. Last year. But I stopped because I knew that even though I loved playing my instruments, that it wasn't for me. I really miss playing but there's no chance that I can buy a barry sax for myself and practice at home. I miss being with all my friends and performing and having a great time and laughing and teasing our conductor. x3 But I miss being able to touch my barry sax the most. *sighs* I quit because I knew I wouldn't practice and I wanted to do other things. And not practicing would have been terrible for my grade and for the entire band.

I'll be trying out for color guard next year, so maybe I'll get to be closer to the band.

Those songs were excellent. It must've been great being able to be apart of that band.
