Warm Heart || Fire || 1/5 || Description - A very useful move that can last for a decent amount of time, Warm Heart can warm up the body of the user, and maybe even surrounding cats if they sit close enough.

Tail Whip || Any || 2/5 || Description - The user's tail becomes coated with whatever element they possess and whips their opponent with it.

Warm Bodies || Fire || 3/5 || Description - Very similar to Warm Heart, but a battle move instead. This allows the user to lightly burn the user’s opponent… internally.

Wisp || Fire || 3/5 || Description - Up to five small balls of fire are ignited in the air, they can be sent out into the distance and burn the surrounding area or a target. With practice, the color of the flames can be changed and is a great move to begin teaching young cats more powerful spells and how to control them

Tidal Breath || Fire || 3/5 || Description - Not to be mistaken for a water spell, this spell allows the user to produce a blue flame from their mouth. It uses a decent amount of concentration from the one using it, but can be a spectacular site to see for those who haven’t mastered this move yet or have a different element… unless you’re on the receiving side of it in battle.

Make It Rain || Any || 1/5 || Description - A show off move, the user is able to make it rain their element. It does no damage. (Light: glitter, Dark/psychic: orbs, Water/ice/mist/steam: rain, fire/lava: embers/ash, electric: small sparks, nature: flower petals, earth/mud: sand)

Physical Appearance:

A young male cat with ruddy brown pelt, brown-cream undercoat with same brown-cream on paws and tip of his fluff of hair, and dark ruddy brown as a stripe from his fluff of hair down to the tip of his tail. At his tail the dark ruddy brown stripe turns into five stripes individually breaking the tail into fifths. From his elbow/knees down to the brown-cream on his paws is the dark ruddy brown covering everything there. The ruddy brown also splits the ear into fourths and also is placed as stripes from the ends of his eyes. His eyes are like maple, but they see nothing around his eyes is a yellow base to surround the maple eyes. A necklace can always be seen around the young male’s neck and it is a fire stone that has a hole in the top of it, from which a silver ring enables it to have a brown string hold it in place. That silver ring also holds five cardinal feathers that lay behind the fire stone: all but the middle feather are a dark red and the middle feather is a bright red feather.

Sweet: ‘Hey there little guy, you don’t need to be sad, if you will let me take a look at that I’ll give you a little treat okay?’ Hotaru is very sweet with all ages, but he dotes on kits more as he can easily cheer them up.

 

Silly: ‘You and me little fella will go out and find some mean followers and rid them from our camp’ Hotaru will play with little kits and will do crazy things to make them happy. He sometimes hurts himself in the process, but so long as overall he and the kits had fun.

 

Friendly: Hotaru will make friends with everyone if he can have his way. He doesn’t make any discriminations as many do so against him, plus he can’t see them.

 

Self-conscious: ‘You don’t see me being mean to you, don’t talk about my blindness as if it was a horrible thing’ Hotaru is very conscious about his blindness, he doesn’t like it when people point it out to him.

 

Well-meaning: ‘Miss, I really am trying, but you have to help me by pushing if you want to see those kits.’ Hotaru really does mean well, but sometimes what he says and does don’t come out as well as they should to others eyes.

 

Fiery: ‘You have your job and I have mine. You do well with your job and know nothing of mine, so let me do my job so I can help you.’ Hotaru personality can turn on a dime if someone angers him, which is rare, or if he is really passionate about something.

 

Well-mannered: ‘That is quite rude for you to do that!’  Due to Bailey’s effect on him and Merle’s playfulness he seemed to have become quite the gentleman if he doesn’t know you very well. However if you have just met or he doesn’t know you very well he might say the above as this has ingrained into his mind quite a bit.

Brief History: 

The Confession:

Firefly and Donald two cats from the South Region have known each other for years. They have been friends since kithood and know practically everything about each other, except one thing: they loved each other. As both have been around for 20 moons, Bailey, a friend of theirs since kithood as well, told both that they should tell each other how they felt. Both had trusted their friend and met up several days later. Neither knew that that they would both confess to the other. Firefly and Donald after a few minutes of meeting up at the spot confessed with one another at the same time. Both had laughed at the other once they realized that they did it at the same time.

 

Before Birth:

Moons passed and Firefly asked Donald if he wanted to have kits with her. He was surprised that she would ask as if they did mate now they would be born in the winter, but he couldn’t resist when Firefly looked so hopeful. Of course not long after she was pregnant. During the winter months food was not as plentiful and Firefly did not get all the proper nutrition she needed, though Donald always gave half of his food to her added onto what she was eating, but for the poor season for prey, food was scarce and ended up being mostly scrawny or having little to no meat on the prey. This of course affected the kits when it was time for them to be born.

 

After Birth:

Note: Donald was out on patrol when the kits were born and he was not there with Firefly at the time of his kits birth.

Firefly had given birth to two kits who were very skinny. A female, a creamy tabby, and a male, a ruddy brown colored tom who was a mix of tabby and plain coated. The female was named Cream, but after naming the kit, she died. Firefly was heartbroken over the sudden death of her first born. After some time when she was recollected she thought thoroughly in the name of her last and only surviving kit. She wanted to name him so that he would not only be named after her name, but that kit would be a light for herself, Donald, and Cream. She named him Hotaru.

 

Opening of his eyes:

Firefly was excited when Hotaru said that he wanted to open his eyes, he hadn’t seen any of the world around him before and he was quite curious. Firefly asked him to make sure that when he was ready that he would tell her so she can see her son open his eyes for the first time. A few hours later Hotaru wanted to open his eyes and told his mother so, she said wait a moment when she saw her mate, Donald pass by. She called to him and said that Hotaru was going to open his eyes for the first time. Donald was excited and came into the Nursery with Firefly and Hotaru. “Okay here I go,” Hotaru sounded excited when he said that. He opened his eyes and Firefly and Donald were surprised at his eyes being the color of maple. Hotaru blinked several times and still wasn’t sure what he was supposed to see; he only saw the blackness he had always seen. “Mama?” Hotaru asked, Firefly responded quickly, “Yes Hotaru?” Hotaru shyly asked, “What am I supposed to be seeing? It looks the same to me as when I had my eyes closed.” Both Donald and Firefly were shocked, their kit was blind.

 

The Break-up:

After the shock was over and Hotaru fell into a deep sleep his parents left him in the nest to have a private conversation. Donald led Firefly to an isolated place to have this conversation. Donald was steaming with rage and Firefly noticed it, but was more in a sad state of mind. Donald spoke first, well more like yelled, “You can’t produce one, just one healthy kit can you?!” Firefly was hurt by his statement and showed signs of it by the tears starting to form in her eyes. “How can I know what would happen? And he is healthy he just has a disability,” Firefly replied in a heartbroken tone, “How can I know? You are just as guilty as I am to how he came out.” Donald was seething from her reply, “I am at fault?! You wanted kits! I gave you what you wanted didn’t I?! He is a failure of a cat! He can’t see and that is your fault! Not Mine, Firefly!” Horrified from her mate’s statement Firefly thought about Hotaru and what was best for him. “Donald you are really just as guilty as I am. I hate to say this, but I will no longer nor ever again be your mate. You have said too much about our only kit that survived and I do not want to hear any more. Goodbye Donald.” Firefly with tears streaming down her face ran away from her now ex-mate.

 

Just Him and His Mother:

That day when firefly returned Hotaru was woken by his mother curling around him. He was half asleep and cuddled up next to her and felt something wet when he smelt the air he smelled his mother’s smell, a flowery scent mixed in with milk, and something salty. Hotaru had no idea what the salty smell was so he asked his mother since he knew she was awake. Firefly looked at her son and replied back. “Mama was crying as she is sad.” She knew she gave up her mate for him, but she loved him as he was now the only light in her life. Hotaru asked innocently, “Why are you sad Mama?” It pained to tell her son the truth, but it was better if he knew rather than be heartbroken when he saw his father next. She took in a breath and said, “Papa… Papa wants nothing to do with us anymore.” Hotaru was surprised, “But Papa was being himself not too long ago. Why would he leave us? Doesn’t he love Mama?” “Hotaru, listen all the way through when I say this okay?” He nodded. “Papa simply wasn’t happy with us, he did love Mama, but that sometimes fades away with time. Even without Papa, I will love you enough to make up for him being gone.” Hotaru cried from what she said and she cried again for hurting his feelings and the loss of her mate.

 

Living on:

Firefly was true to her word and loved him and spoiled him more that the average kit was. They grew inseparable and Hotaru was constantly being trained by her to know the smells of different thing and how each cat smelled. She taught him how to follow smells and how to using his hearing and whiskers to know his way around camp. Hotaru wanted to help his region rather than go to the elder’s den, he just hadn’t figured out how yet. But he knew many of the cats by scent and many he knew the names that corresponded with their smell. One day it was pouring and their bed got soaked, but his mother made him get on her so only she got wet as there was nowhere dry for them to go. This was of course a terrible idea and she caught whitecough which turned into greencough.  Hotaru was separated from his mother for a long time although he visited her every day, but he was advised to stay distant so he didn’t get sick and Firefly agreed.

 

Firefly’s death:

The healer taking care of Hotaru’s mother gave Hotaru catmint one day so that he wouldn’t get sick as he was finally able to be with his mother as she was dying. Firefly looked so relieved to be so close to her son again and since she knew she was going to die soon she had to tell him that he had actually had a sister and that Donald despite his, now obvious, faults had really truly loved her. She told him of her and Donald’s history and about his sister. As she truly neared toward death she had to ask him if he would listen to her dying wish, Hotaru of course agreed. She had asked him to not hate his father, Hotaru of course extremely disliked his father, but he really could never hate him as he was at one point sweet to him. He agreed to her dying wish. Firefly said that she was going to go and not long after she passed away.

 

The Grief:

Hotaru was extremely depressed and cried for a long time. He was already 5 moons old and he had no one left. He never thought of other family cats as close to him other than his mother. Bailey came to him and asked him if he would stay with her for the time being in the nursery. Bailey at this time was pregnant and was still a good friend to his mother. Hotaru agreed as he no longer wanted to be alone. He knew he was, but he wanted to not feel like it. Bailey had always treated him fairly and friendly. With the combo of her and Charles, her mate as well as Hotaru’s uncle, soon Hotaru could at least think about the future.

 

The Path of Choice:

Since Firefly died he finally had a path open to him that had never occurred to him before. Hotaru should try to be a Healer. It would be hard to do, but it wasn’t impossible so long as he kept up his learning that Firefly had started. Plus he doesn’t want another kit to end up like him feeling alone and helpless after his or her mother died. With Hotaru’s mind set, he awaits Rookieship.

 

Rookieship:

He was assigned to Merle as his guide to be a healer rookie after only a few weeks with Clarias who left unexpectedly. Merle is extremely playful and tends to be the reason Hotaru grew up so quickly mentally, although he is still very childish himself. She has continued with his training without his sight. Often times playing tricks with him, such as making him find her as well as attempt to react to her movements correctly. Since neither of them are great at fighting as a whole, he still lacks in that area, but if he can get you it won’t be all too light. He also wandered the South Region a lot on his own and ended up meeting: Gwen, Olive, August, and Cerviel. During his rookieship the Strange Weather Patterns started to occur. Which ended up with him being one of the few cats able to stand the heat, though he will admit he was also parched. When the South Region broke up into groups to support their region with the new weather causing the South to be in a severe drought; he was placed in the group that went out searching for any available herbs. This was a success, though many of the herbs were too dry to use later on, so many herbs were left behind. At one point the West Evacuated to the South from their constant fires occurring. Of course Hotaru left the healer’s den to find herbs that were still good to help those who came and ended up meeting Fortunata and Cricket. When the West were relocated to the Neutral lands, he did not freak out at all, but he was advised to stay away from the Neutral lands. When the gathering after that occurred, Hotaru was not present, infact he was told to stay behind as no one knew what would happen and the fact that he cannot see came into play when there was danger. Of course that was when the Followers appeared, and boy, he was glad he was left behind.  Various cats told him of what had occurred and he had no idea of what would have happened with him, since he wouldn’t be able to see what was happening to move out of anything’s way. About a moon after that occurred Merle told him that he might get another stone and also he was being tested to be ranked up. Merle had a couple of days off and he took her place without her help. To his luck he passed and was given his second spell Tail Whip. Not long after he was made a healer. However Merle was not there to see him graduate as she went missing.

Sad Days as a Healer: 

Merle never returned and his life has been turned upside down. He didn't know what to do with himself and his days were full of sighs and at the beginning crying. Merle was like a third mother to him and She had been there for him since Clarias left. His mind was lifted when his fellow Healer, Pip, wanted to help relieve his worries and would be there for him. Excited for the idea of there being another who would be there for him the two became more chummy than they ever had before and these two were together more often. They even stayed together when there was a sudden call for a meeting and Pip offered to chaperon Hotaru encase something would occur. Sadly for the two of them something did occur and it confused Hotaru at first as to what was occurring and Pip helped him out on what was occurring until the noises of the other region mates were making sense to him. The hunt for the spy was beginning. Sakami was the first to be judged and she left willingly as an exile, next was Raya who was talking back to Sairen during the prior trial and she was deemed innocent. However Hotaru's demeanor was beginning to change when his friend Benzen was called to be tried. He was angry at Sairen for accusing his own friend for his heritage and was imprisoned in camp for it. However his demeanor completely changed when Pip, his one close bond he has, was called next. Even before Pip said anything, after saving Benzen by talking about his past, Hotaru was completely swallowed by his fiery nature and yelled at his superiors. Jharain spoke to him and Sairen ignored him.  He gave them an choice the Healers or Sairen would go. Later on when Hotaru returned to himself after talking with Pip some he returned to his normal self. However Pip was called to be exiled he had told Hotaru to stay behind and they were separated. Hotaru was heartbroken again and this time he was all alone.

Benzen was exiled from the region due to a snarky comment he made to Sairen. During this time Hotaru had lost all trust in his leader. Of course things were depressing for Hotaru as he was essentially alone.  He didn't want to do anything and he fell into a depression. The tom barely ate anything and stayed in his den all the time, loosing a bunch of weight due to his depression. He started to come out of it as the apprentice Siybl cheered him up and helped him get out of his den some with just little tasks. Various cats started to come to him for healing purposes such as Ruto and Mirielle, which also helpped him out some. Around this time though Sairen went missing, where he went so far no one knows. Jharain has taken his place and named Freed as his advisor. When Jharain had started to get used to the position he called for a region meeting, where there they would decide as to what to do since the disastrous event Sairen had created.

(Please note that I will not write in the part about Hotaru getting an apprentice until after the current event is over as it would be weird for him to get one in the middle of this event)

Sally:   ||  - Sally is Hotaru’s cousin as well as Donavan's sister, a sweet fragile kit, who often visits Hotaru as she seems to always be sick. Hotaru is very sweet to her and is practically wrapped around her little paw.

 

(?) Merle:   ||  ||  || - Merle was Hotaru’s guide. He loves her as if she was a 3^rd mother to him and reminds him a lot of his real mother, other than getting overly playful. When she gets too playful or isn’t acting like an adult he would get aggravated at her and generally tell her so. However at this time she is missing maybe even dead and he misses her so much right now.

 

Benzen:  || - Benzen is a great little guy and doesn’t judge me for being as I am and accepts it. In fact I sometimes think he wanted to be a healer for as much as he loves the smell of herbs from Merle and I.

Pipsqueak:  ||   || || - Pip is my fellow Healer who is very dense, but i have a bond with him and I just don't know how to function without him anymore. (He currently is not fully aware that he has a huge crush on Pip)

Role Play Sample 1:

Crash! Hotaru, who was sound asleep, wakes up being alert. No noises should be occurring in the night, especially not something that sounded like something large falling. Hotaru sniffs the air and smells something sweet and tangy, something that Hotaru is familiar with, something that is – catnip? Hotaru slowly and quietly pads into the area where the catnip supplies are kept. There is another smell, a cat and milk. “Who, is in here?” Hotaru makes himself sound deeper and gruffer than normal to scare anyone who was into the catnip supplies. A mew replies, “Me.” Hotaru immediately realizes that this is a kit and not just any kit it is his cousin Donavan.  Hotaru sighs and asks, “Donavan, what are you doing here? Do you realize it is still night?” Donavan hunches down and puts his ears back in shame of being caught and says “Yes, I just wanted some catnip, but it was too high so I fell.” Hotaru shakes his head in disbelief and simply replies with, “I can tell, go back to you mother, in the morning I have to tattle on you, and you are not getting any catnip.” Donavan looks sadden, but accepts his fate and slowly walks out of there and back to where his mother is. With Donavan out of the area Hotaru sighs and cleans up the mess as best as he can with his paws.   

Roleplay Sample 2: From The-Brightest-Shadow : TBS - Hotaru and Merle - Before Graduation

Hotaru sighed while his mentor decided to finally stop eating all the catnip. As she walked away and crouched towards him he heard her shuffling, but he wasn't paying all that attention to her movements. Just when he finished collecting all the bad herbs onto the large leaf she jabs him on both shoulders making him jump and give a yelp of surprise. Of course this made some of the bad herbs scatter off the leaf. The smell of the bad herbs mixing into the air and his fur bristles out.

When he landed on his paws again, he looked back, not knowing exactly where Merle was, but gave a glare meant for his mentor. He gave a heavy sigh and then piled up the herbs again quickly and centered them onto the leaf. Once he finished gathering and centering the herbs he instantly dragged the leaf and the herbs out of the healers den. Thinking to himself the entire time, 'Merle! You just asked me to do that and what do you do? You scare me! You very well know I am blind! I need to pay more attention to what she is doing! Where is Pip? He would probably scold her if he was here!" He makes some grumbling to himself of what he is thinking, but it is nearly incoherent with the leaf in his mouth. 

He then returns with a slightly aggravated facial expression and his fur is still a little bristled from the scare.
