The Tibetan term "DORJE" denoted the thunderbolt, a legendary weapon and divine attribute that was made from an adamantine, or indestructible, substance and which could therefore pierce and penetrate any obstacle . As a secondary meaning, "DORJE" refers to this indestructible substance, and so is sometimes translated as "adamantine" or "diamond"
A DORJE is also a scepter-like ritual object. The DORJE is often traditionally employed in tantric rituals in combination with the bell or ghanta; symbolically, the DORJE may represent method as well as great bliss and the bell stands for wisdom, specifically the wisdom realizing emptiness.
