This one was inspired by the beautiful artwork of Catherine Karina Chmiel, called "He is my son, Maeglin". In the piece, it's depicted the moment in wich Aredhel and her son return to Gondolin. I imagined that The Noldor welcome their lady with great joy, but it isn't the same for Maeglin, since they consider the son of Aredhel "half Noldor", a bastard son of the lineage of Teleri.

Poor Maeglin!:( I always felt so sorry for him. This is really stunning, all of the expressions are spot-on! Gorgeous clothing too. And I'm a fan of Catherine Chmiel's art too!:)

He looks so sad at not being fully accepted, and Aredhel trying to comfort/encourage him..... I love it

Oh yes this is so great <3 <3 I totally adore your version of Maeglin ^^ And his outfit is absolutely gorgeous. I love how protective Aredhel is. So motherly. In fact, they are both protective to each other XD
Love the whispers and glances of the assembled crowd.
I really love Maeglin and Aredhel story. One of my favorite in the Silmarillon <3

Thank you dear Aloi!! ... I'm in love with the dark/sad/terrible story of Aredhel and her son. The Fall of Gondolin is one of my fav from Tolkien, and I often think about what amazing job Tolkien would have made with this piece if he worked the text...

Beautiful work as always. I wonder what the gossip girls in the left are saying though. :giggle:

I'm not sure about the "bastard son" part though. As long as the Elven customs are considered, Aredhel and Eöl really are married. There is a wedding ceremony described for the Eldar in HoME series in pretty good detail, but getting married doesn't necessarily need the ceremony, even if in the safest of times it is preferred.

The ceremony is mainly about the blessing and joining the two families of the couple, though the actual marriage only needs the consummation, which is you-know-what, and they obviously did it. ;)

If it's looked at that way, I don't think the Eldar really have bastard children.

Elaini, you are perfectly reason! I didn't used the word "bastard" in the right way. I meant that the Noldor of Gondolin not consider really Maeglin as one of them and fit to rule because his seed is not pure, but he is the son of a Noldor and one of the Teleri. This is my interpretation, of course! I'm sorry, but I'm not native English speaker, and often I write faster using the terms that I know Wink/Razz I think I've fainted.
Thank you so much for the comment!!
