Mosasaurus is a genus of mosasaurs, an extinct group of carnivorous aquatic lizards. They are some of the fearsome predators to ever inhabit the oceans. Mosasaurus was also more robust than related mosasaurids. The largest species Mosasaurus hoffmanni perhaps reached over 13 m in length and weighed over 7 tonnes.
Fossils have been found all over the world including Australia, Europe, New Zealand, Russia, Turkey, the Middle East, Africa, North America, South America and even in islands off the coast of Antarctica.
