Apatosaurus by SameerPrehistorica Apatosaurus by SameerPrehistorica
Apatosaurus is famous for once having the name Brontosaurus, nonetheless both animals are closely related. Apatosaurus is among the largest dinosaurs to roam the Earth. It measured about 75 - 100 feet long and weighed 40 to 60 tonnes or more.

Fossils have been found in Colorado, Oklahoma and Utah in the United States.

Cool. What do you think about things like all the new Azdarchid pterosaurs being discovered? Also things like Halszkaraptor and such that have helped our knowledge of the prehistory? There's been a few discoveries while you were away, so I wonder how you will respond to these?

I remember like 50 tonnes mentioned for that specimen which is a sub adult, then the next thing i know is that the weight for this animal increased upto 80 tonnes which should be the adult's weight. So,40 or 50 to 80 tonnes. Obviously the full grown male will easily surpass 50 tonnes. The other Apatosaurus species are in the range of 30 to 50 tonnes.

Are you going to make a pic of spinosaurs including Baryonyx, Ichthyovenator, Irritator, Suchomimus, and Spinosaurus soon?

Good work! But the apatosaurus is not only 75 ft long?

It could be having an average length like 70 or 75 ft and at maximum can be 90 feet.Even though the SNOMNH specimen is 90 + feet.

Specimens, omnh 1331 and 1670 look to be 90+ feet in length, there are also several slightly smaller ones that apparently show neurocentral fusion which occurs in brachiosaurs and diplodocids at <80% of their linear adult size, leading to 34+ meter estimates

Rough estimate. Remember, we don't know exactly how long sauropods could grow. Some might have been bigger than the fossils we've found.

Ah yes, one of the most famous Dinosaurs in the world. I grew up calling it Brontosaurus but then learned that it was the same thing as Apatosaurus (which was proven back in 1903, long before you and I were born)

Brontosaurus was discovered to be a valid genus recently.

This comment was posted before I found out that the two are now officially separate and valid genera

Right. It was the largest Dinosaur at the time it was discovered and when they mounted it,they accidentally used the skull of Camarasaurus. For many days it remained like that. The name Brontosaurus is better than Apatosaurus.

Yeah, "Thunder Lizard" sounds cooler than "Deceptive Lizard", but Apatosaurus was its name first. And that's what I'm now used to calling it nowadays

Thank you. I don't use to mention the last name mostly which you should be knowing. This is based on A.louisae and i slightly increased it's size considering the OK specimen.
