My first impression is of a controlled sort of panic, like the kind you get when you're hunting dragons and you've successfully provoked it into chasing you. I love the way you accomplished that sense of urgency by the blurred strokes like a tunnel vision! And the details of the dragon/lizard are fantastic, especially with the hand that is tearing free of some vines. The setting is wonderful and there's a lot of great movement in your brushwork. I like the lighting--for the most part. I feel like overly bright light by the dragon/lizard is useful for making it the center figure, and really getting the details of the face set into relief, but I feel like it's oddly inappropriate given the setting for there to be so incredibly strong a light right there. Still, I DO like the effect for the contrast, so it's sort of a Catch-22 with that light source.

Overall, I feel that your sense of imagination, and concept for the drawing is very impressive, and your technique is fantastic, and put to good use! =D

Thanks for the analysis, glad you like it. And yes, it's easy to get carried away with back-lighting :)

Critique: Nice action, good movement, realistic colors. If you meant for the guy running away to look in-control and not panicked while escaping, it comes across really well.

My only complaint is that there isn't enough detail in the beast. It looks as if it's unfinished, for example the rear leg. If the lack of detail is from thicker atmosphere/fog obscuring , it isn't convincingly done. If the lack of detail is to keep the audience's attention on the action, it doesn't work for me. It's like, "I want to pay attention to the action, but there is something off about the beast... that's it, it's unfinished." He looks too big to have that much lack of detail. Plus, his front-half looks all spiky, but his rear half doesn't. It's inconsistent.

If this piece is a work-in-progress, then ignore any of my corresponding critique.
