DA is unfortunately becoming more of a pain for me to use. Keeping track of messages is difficult. The new layout is not super user friendly. I'll try to still post, but if you want to see all of my art as I draw it, definitely follow me elsewhere
I am saddened to know that DA is a pain for you now. All I know is that if keeping track of messages is difficult for you it's because you are AWESOME! That's how it was for me on Pokécharms. I got overwelmed and had to give up. Not as many Deviants on here comment or favourite me as much so it's a bit easier for me on here. And also I use my phone so I'm on mobile site version. I don't know the difference between mobile and desktop/laptop. I don't even know you, but I respect you and you are awesome! So, I will respect your wishes, sambeawesome.😊
Aw, cheers! I appreciate the support The message management issue is less that I get messages and more that I can't easily find or organize things like I used to on the old layout. I'm not sure what the differences are for mobile either, since I only use desktop. But hopefully it's not too bad. Thanks again though
Thank YOU for replying to me! Oh, I suppose I didn't understand what was wrong. I do support you, even though I'm not much help. I'm sure it probably just takes some time to get used to.. but I still respect you, sambeawesome. I will still watch you no matter where you are. Thank you, awesome sauce!
It seems to be a running theme across the whole internet; well established sites undergo a UI upgrade making it less user friendly, thus pushing more people to use either twitter or instagram. It makes zero sense.
I understand their motivation to modernize the site, and DA isn't as popular as it was back in its peak, so it had to change to keep up with competition. That said, it's hard to say how much they dove into UI testing. I know a lot of people compared this new layout to an attempt at copying Art Station, but it's like copying someone's homework without understanding the material--aka, not understand what makes Art Station successful. Fingers crossed they see the feedback/reactions and take it into account.
Unfortunately it seems they ignored all of the feedback, about 80 to 85% of people really hate the new design, even in beta it wasn't liked. But they plowed on anyway, and it seems the testing was appalling.
Someone commented to me that if they worked for a company and presented this site with all the bugs and said it had taken over 12 months to do , they'd be fired instantly, and rightly so.
DeviantArt no long cares about its user base.
It's a huge cost investment to dump the project, so it doesn't surprise me that they stuck through with it. (They've done this with every layout change, and got just as much flack every time. Granted, I think this time it feels like there's more push back since the change was so gradual, and we all could see what was to come.)
What is a bit shocking is the sheer amount of bugs and UI issues that were not addressed during the beta, as you said. I can't recall this much of a mess in any of the previous layout changes, I'm not sure what happened there. If it's a new management issue, team, etc. But this design definitely needed more testing before the release, for sure.
I think I read somewhere that the original creator was ousted at some point. I'll have to see if I can find the article again. I can't remember what the issue was or why it happened, but the site hasn't been the same since.
The testers definitely do need a stern talking to for the mess they made of it all. But DA really need to listen to the end users or they'll end up with no site.
You just summed up my current feelings about deviantart. They made the site unnecessarily difficult to use to track every message and new contents from artists...
Literally my go-to page on DA was the notifications. I got to immediately see information on everyone I followed, along with all my messages from my followers. Everything is separated into a million little categories all on separate pages, it's ridiculous. I have to remember to go out of my way to find things. x/ It's tragic.
It's a pain to see all my favorit quality Artists either leave the Platform or slowly shutdown ther Uploads.
(Same goes for Watchers too. *speaks from experience* )
But it is understandable.
- The "Mature Content" Filter doesn't seem to work.
- The "Most recent Uploads" Page is unwatchable already (because of sayed Filter).
- The Watchlist is still terrible to manage.
All that makes it really hard to find and support new or existing Artists.
I wish you good luck in finding a better Platform to post on.
Btw: The #Artistsontwitter - Hashtag on Twitter is a nice Thread to follow.
I'm not leaving, I'll still be around, but things will definitely slow down here. I really did try to stay. This was my art home for so long, it'd be too hard to step away so easily. It sucks, it really does.
At the very least, I hope DA will listen well enough to fix the bugs and what UI they can with this new layout. :/ Right now, things are just too scattered and hard to find/organize for me.
Thanks though! I appreciate it
I actually just this morning added a Discord goal on my Patreon xD I've tried and failed running one in the past, I just wasn't ready for it, but I'm open to the idea now
And yeah, this new UI is...not good x/
It definitely needs some improvement on multiple fronts. I have quit uploading myself just due to the fact there has been so much change. Will for sure keep an eye out on FA :)
