Hello! I have to admit that I'm really impressed with your art. Specially with your gouaches. How do you get those color transitions with gouache?
I've always found gouache really difficult to use, maybe because I haven't used them much. But I started to use it again recently (just playing arround) and I was wondering if you could give me some advice or explain a little the technique you use.

Thanks a lot

Right now I don't have any paintings, I've been just painting over part of old sketches or making some triouts to remember how to mix the colors and get the color I want.

But I have to make a reproduction of one of Frank Frazzeta's illustration for a project and I am terrified because of the difficulty of imitating his style with gouache.

I will send you some WIP images as I get them.

Thanks a lot

i think you're off to a great start.
it's actually a little to early in the game to
give you any direction. what i see is fine so far.
the only things i would say are based on misgivings
others have had when trying gouache for the first time.

1. make sure you premix enough of your "sky" base color.
one thing to do with gouache that alot of people find
diffecult when first using it is "blending".
i find that if i premix an ample amount of a color i need
that will be used for a large area, it's easier to match color.

2. if you find that you feel you've made a mistake on an area,
don't try to keep painting over it as you would with acrylic or oil.
it will only get muddy and you'll get frustrated.
this is where gouache rocks! dampin the area to be corrected and lift
the color out. ( you may have to do this several times. ) it will adhere
to the area better and give you a "cleaner" piece.
it's one of the reasons early illustrators liked it so.

that's it for now. keep up the good work!

This is the best iteration of this picture so far. Love the colors, and the character is so something I would read about or play in a game. :D

That turned out great! I've never played with gouache much, but the results are hard to argue with. The vibrance of these colors is terrific.
