Regno Mediterraneo - Mediterranean Kingdom by SalesWorlds Regno Mediterraneo - Mediterranean Kingdom by SalesWorlds
This kingdom is based on an alternative-history country formed after the marriage of Charles II of Spain and Maria Luisa of Savoy. Their union gave birth to Charles III of the Habsburg House, so the War of the Spanish Succession after which the Bourbon dynasty took the Spanish throne never occurred.

The ambition of Charles III over the Mediterranean made him arrange an agreement with the Republic of Genoa in 1733. After this, the Pope crowned him emperor and yielded all the papal territories to the kingdom. It was a matter of time until Tuscany was taken and merged almost the whole italian peninsula. The Republic of Venice gave support during the military campaign in exchange of help from the new kingdom at the war against the Ottomans, in order to maintain the control over the Adriatic Sea, but was reticent about joining under the flag of Charles III.

The names of the cities are in the local language. However, Charles III began a unification of the diferent languages spoken all across the kingdoms. This new language is called Mediterranean language, and is a mix of all the romance languages. This new language is used in the names of the other territories and seas.

In this map I've not showed the territories outside the Mediterranean area.

Have you ever considered doing a map for a timeline in which Miguel da Paz doesn't die as an infant, but grows up to unify the crowns and become the first Emperor of all Spain? I've always wondered how things would have worked out for Spain had the Habsburgs not ended up taking over.

One thing that bothers me is that this timeline is based around if Charles II had a son, which is next to impossible

Not if we assume that Charles II was born healthy. It's fiction anyway.

Nope :( The Portuguese Restoration War never happened, so Iberia was still united. Thanks!

Otherwise, great map.

The Papal States wouldn't likely yield control of their segments of Italy to another monarch. I'm interested, though, and your map is quite pretty.~

Of course, there is a reason why the Pope does that, but I'll explain everything in the article for LifeForms. Although obviously, everything is fiction. I hope you like it!

This is absolutely exquisite! How do you think the Regno Mediterraneo would do going in to the Industrial Revolution, and how would it affect Europe?

I have plans to continue this story and it will be also published in :iconlifeforms-official:

Even so, I can tell you that not everything is going to be easy and the House of Habsburg from Austria is not going to stay quiet after losing the crown of the HRE.

Stay tuned!
