I realized it has been awhile since I updated anything personal about myself which can mean one of two things. I either am super busy or have not much to report. Of course it could be the mysterious option three that I couldn't be bothered to list the boring duldrums of my life. I'll let you decide which it is.
If there is one thing I have learned about myself is that I tend to get involved in projects which consume my time. Not that this is bad but I find I have little time for much else after work and tend to let things slip away. Things I really want to accomplish. With that being said, this year I have decided to time manage more and so far am finding my inspiration and passion. Anyone who looks at my page will soon discover I am divided between my love of art and costuming. I tend to be more inspired by costuming but it also helps me explore different aspects of my art. This year I will work hard to devote my time to both of my passions in the hope that I can grow as an artist. I used to think I had no personal style to my art but once I did a few projects for my work I realized I did and I need to cultivate that and expand my horizons.
All this is leading to my newest project which my best friend helped me find. I had already decided to follow the legions of Frozen fans into the wide world of Arendelle and make Anna's coronation dress. I have loved Anna since the first time I saw her and loved her even more after seeing the movie. She has my persoanlity and it is so rare for me to find a character like her which I relate to so well. I was scared at first to tackle the box pleating of her skirt but I NEED to challenge myself in my costuming and this is the best way, with something I love. I told my best friend about this costuming endevor and we talked back and forth about the Frozen costumes. She loves Elsa and I feel she can really realate to the character on a personal level. I casually mentioned if she wanted me to make the ice dress Elsa wears I would be willing to work on it for her. A couple of months later she came back with the comment she loved Elsa's coronation dress better. She has been hinting for a several weeks that she would like this dress so yesterday we made it offical. We picked out material and when she can afford it she will purchase the material and we can be sisters of Arendelle for real. I had put the timeline down to have mine finished for our local sci-fi convention, Starfest, next April. I also suggested we should enter the costume contest together. I don't expect to win, but I thought it might be a fun way to show off all our hard work. Surprisingly, she agreed to this.
Then it exploded frome there with the possibility of using her two daughters, who will be 9 and 6 at the time, and have them go on first as the yong Elsa and Anna in their night gowns from the indoor snow scene. I will be making all four costumes plus hand embroidering mine and my best friends, but I don't really feel overwhelmed about it. I acctually feel excited about it. I'm taking this as a sign that I am supposed to make these costumes and that it will help strengthen our friendship. Needless to say I can't wait to start sharing my Frozen adventure with you guys.
