I don't normally submit work to contests, but the Dark Shadows contest is such a good fit for my style that I thought it would be a fun project to keep my ink skills sharp.

Per usual: Higgins India ink w/crow quill nibs on Bristol board. Lots of editing in Photoshop to correct tones and various mistakes.

Good job on the contrasts, the shading and the clothes! This piece has great atmosphere and while the man is standing still in front of the window, the pic is still lively.

Thanks! Atmosphere is definitely what I was going for, so glad to hear it's working for you.

Sadly, the contest is over, and I wasn't one of the finalists. But thanks anyway! :D

You're right, it's a natural fit :) Great perspective, very menacing!

Oh my! Is this Dark Shadows as in the crazy-bad television show that was discussed on TAL a couple of episodes ago? It's awesome, as usual. The subject matter certainly befits your style!

Yeah, it was a Gothic soap opera that ran in the 70s. I've honestly never seen it, just some clips, but it's fairly well known to those interested in modern vampire lore. Glad you like the drawing!

Totally do! Good luck in the comp as well, btw. And yeah, you should listen to this ep of This American Life. It's absolutely fascinating! [link]

OMG awesome, I'll have to check that out. Thanks!

That's amazing. I love your ink-lines shade work. Have I mentioned it reminds me a lot of Edward Gorey for some reason? And I dig it.

And best of luck! Hope you win :)

I assumed someone would make the comparison to Gorey. I get that a lot!

And thanks, we'll see how it goes...
