Kumijeon are a CLOSED SPECIES
created by me. I was inspired to try my hand at a new species after learning about Kumihos. If you don't know the mythos behind Kumihos, definitely Wikipedia it - it's a neat read - because we're here to talk about Kumijeons. The term Kumijeon comes from the Korean folklore "Kumiho" and the Korean word "jeonseoul"(which means legend). Kumijeons are a special type of fox spirit who are each unique, and will have sanctuaries built for them by the mortals. They are quite elusive - hence why it is rare for mortals to see them - but among their kind and other immortals, they are lively! Kumijeons are said to have originated as pets to the celestials, but due to their fascination with the mortals, they were granted their wish to be independent beings who are able to reside on a plain closer the mortal realm. Kumijeons are herbivores; naturally you will find them eating plants and berries, but if they get a taste for blood, look out. Lastly, if a Kumijeon finds a mate, they are mated for life.Kumijeon Types:
As with any closed species, Kumijeon have a pyramid of subspecies.-Jeolban
Stemming from the word "halfling", Jeolbans are Kumijeons who have mated with humans(or other humanoid species*). Most Kumijeons are able to reproduce by magic split between two; like every creature in existence, they crave companionship and relationships, and sometimes breaking beyond their species to find their other half.-Geomul
Stemming from the word "monster", Geomuls share the most similarities with the Korean mythological beast, as they are corrupted. Geomuls come to be when a Kumijeon of any decent gets a taste for blood. A Geomul will commonly feast on a creature after they have mated, but they will also feast on other creatures, especially other Kumijeons, when they win a battle.-Sin
Stemming from the word "deity", Sins are rare to come across, but not unheard of, as they will bless the lesser Kumijeons when there is a celebration or festival. Sins are the subordinates to Jeonseols, and that is why they are out-and-about with the other Kumijeons. However, Sins take pride in supporting their fellow Kumijeons, and love to spend time bonding with them. -Jeonseoul
Stemming from the word "legend", Jeonseouls are almost never seen by any Kumijeon, other than Sins, because they are rare to be bred, and must remain protected. Don't be fooled, they do care for their fellow beasts, and that is why they send Sins to socialize on their behalf, however, they will make brief appearances during solstice festivals.
*If permitted by other closed species makers, you can hybridize Kumijeon with other closed species, but for the time being they will be mating with humans.Kumijeon Traits:
Like any other species out there, the Kumijeons have their trademarked traits, from ear shape to magic stones to number of tails.-Yeowu Guseul and Their Location
These are magic stones that allow Kumijeons to adapt to their surroundings, and take in knowledge. The Jeolban have crescent moon shapes located on their foreheads; Geomuls have circle stones located on their foreheads and tails; Sins have diamond-shaped ones located on their foreheads, cheeks, and tails; lastly, Jeonseols have their star-shaped stones located on their foreheads, cheeks, hands, and tails.-Ears
Each Kumijeon subspecies has their own unique ear styles; Jeolbans have fuzzy elf-like pointed ears, Geomuls tend to have scars on their fox ears, Sins have fluffy fox ears, and Jeonseols have long wing-shaped fluffed ears.-Eyes
The eyes are a big tell among Kumijeon types(by pupils, namely); Jeolbans have dotted pupils which is another nod to their non-Kumijeon parent, Geomuls have ordinary slit pupils to indicate corruption/lack of goodness, Sins have slit pupils with a different color circle around it, and Jeonseols have slit pupils with a different colored circle and 4 points.-Wings
Like any stereotypical mythical beast, Kumijeons have wings to differentiate between them, except the Jeolbans; Geomuls tend to have devil or demonic wings, and Sins have 4 angel-like wings while Jeonseols have 6.Tails
Every Kumijeon has a tail, even Jeolbans; Jeolbans have 1, Geomuls have 3, Sins have 6, and lastly Jeonseols have 9.Yeongbuls
As powerful as Kumijeon magic is, they are not invincible beings; their fox fire companions, the Yeoungbul, are the key to their mortality, for if they are extinguished, the Kumijeons will spirit away. Each Yeoungbul is unique to it's Kumijeon companion because they are pieces of their soul, and thus designs themselves to match their owner.
