if you could update to 2004 ver. of windows, that would be great :D

OrignJ's avatar

this literally destroyed my whole pc.

I assume you won't update this theme, but it has gotten extremely glitchy on later versions of Windows 10, especially on high DPI, but there are even problems on standard scaling. Maximized windows look TERRIBLE, the resize box on the bottom right of some windows shows black instead of light gray, the expand tray icon is incorrect, and modern taskbar context menus are completely broken. It's a shame that this theme is no longer good to use, and I would donate if it meant that the theme would be updated to fix these issues.

snowyowl9's avatar

Maybe there would still be issues even if the theme was updated, because Microsoft are determined to keep a consistent, universal theme.

pushstarttorich15's avatar

I don't think so. I know that more theming functionality was removed in later versions, but all of the files are still there to change. The reason that these issues occur is mainly because images that make up the window frame, buttons, and other elements get swapped to different places, and the theme can't take that into account since it is designed for an earlier version. The main functionality in theming that has been removed includes most, if not all of the Taskbar, the Start button, UWP and modern apps, File Explorer and Taskbar context menus (This can be somewhat fixed), and the occasional button or pop-out or button that has been replaced with a theme-independent modern variant. Most of the Win32 classic elements have remained untouched though, which is why I think it is a shame that this theme has remained unchanged. Like I said previously, I would donate if it meant that I could be sure an updated version would come.

snowyowl9's avatar

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It's just that Microsoft want to make it difficult to change the theme. I don't completely hate Windows 10, I just don't feel ready to embrace it. I wish there was as much social change as there is technological change.

I'm experiencing a bug with the theme, the scroll bar lines (as seen in the pictures) don't appear as lines as they should considering this is a Windows 7 theme, instead for me they appear as strange looking dots, I'm running the anniversary version of Windows 10, I'm not sure if it has anything to do with it but I've installed the corresponding theme for the anniversary version and the bug persists on all 3 them styles (Clear, Squared, Basic), some help with this bug would be appreciated, I would write this in a comment or note but DA seems completely broken for me at the moment.

Here is a screenshot of the bug:

Also as a side note/suggestion it would be nice to have a theme that only changes everything but the Window textures, so basically have a Windows 10 theme but with Windows 7 UI elements like buttons, scroll bars, close buttons, etc.

OK. Let me say right off the bat that Microsoft doesn't make things easy. With that being said, here's my take on this theme.

First off, the idea is great and the theme is great. You're the only one who makes Aero themes for Windows 10. The downside to this is that it is rendered unusable after every Windows 10 build upgrade. I know this is Microsoft's fault here, but it still needs to be mentioned. For these reasons, your vision and originality ratings are five stars.

Second, for this theme to be complete, it requires the user to use paid software. A free theme should only depend on free software regardless of the intended purpose. The Aero Glass is nagware and displays a really large watermark on the screen. StartIsBack only offers a trial and afterward it becomes nagware. For these reasons, I lowered your technique and impact ratings.

I understand that the theme should not be expected to be bug-free, and therefore I will not touch on those. I am a programmer, so I know what it is like to have someone touch on all the bugs in your program while disregarding the extent of the work you did on the program.

I hope you find these opinions helpful.

Hello. I am quite impressed by your work. Thanks.
I Wish to have windows 10 look as much as possible like WINDOWS 7.

I have build Version: 1511, (05-10586.36)

I have read over your instructions (below) but being nerd i am overwhelmed and confused on THE STEP BY STEP PROCESS to do this.

Do you have a youtube video or more detailed instructions on how to get back the Windows 7 theme on Window 10?????

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Gary

Complete Instruction :
First patch your system with this updated "uxstyle Theme Patcher" :--> [Link] and restart your pc.
now download my file and unzip it. there is a theme folder you found, go inside that theme folder & copy all items to : c:\windows\resources\themes folder.
Now Go to Desktop Personalize & apply the theme.

Now Download & install correct "Aero Glass" : [Link]

also, you have to install "OldNewExplorer" too : [Link]

I'd love to end this quickly but seems dA doesnt want me to.
I personally love w7 themes I also have one by damonkeyoncrack for win8.1 but for win10 he stopped, so I found this...
I always use aero 7 clear because I dont like the stripes and I want my rounded corners. and while there were some smaller glitches in RTM (10240) it got even better in the november update (10586) (for example the titlebar "glitch" is fixed since MS made the title bar get colored differently for active windows again) and as I said this is lovely. by far the greates problem with this (and all other themes) is that micro$oft make it so stupidly hard to install themes from 3rd parties, which is bad since windows themes since win8 are plain junk in my opinion.

If only it was avaliable for newer versions. It's a shame MS keep breaking updates with Windows. Same thing with XP, Vista, 8, etc.

You have to patch your Windows 10 in order to use 3rd party themes.

UltraUXThemePatcher or SecureUXTheme can help you.

but you will need to set to some custom colors if you don't want the taskbar to be buggy: set the default windows colors to dark, and default apps to light theme
DerrickKeno's avatar

Thank you for making Windows 10 more tolerable :handshake:

Works relatively well on 2004 (19035.1), but you have to set the theme to dark in the settings since the taskbar is bugged on the light theme.

Cyberkarma's avatar

Many bugs on WIndows 10 Home 1909. Windows Close/Minimize/Maximize buttons doesn't correct draw when windows maximized. And so on.

Somehow the windows 10's maximised titlebar stuck at that height even when I have changed the border padding or titlebar height

gagi2002's avatar

It works in Windows 10 Enterprise 1909, thank you for this theme!
