exploding chrysanthemums.

copic sketch and ink on paper, 10 hrs.

The "exploding chrysanthemum" effect can be achieved by dripping Colorless Blender on the pre-colored surface (I used the booster needle for precise dripping). However, the downside is that it can spread/bleed alarmingly quickly.. I tried to control it, but as you can see, some parts got stained. :/ It's a fun technique to explore, though.

Ehh.. the hands are messed up. :/ I'm going to retouch it later, but unless you REALLY have a problem with it, I'm not going to bother putting up a rescanned version. The dress turned out okay, but the perspective-thingy of the parasol was confusing.. ^^;

If you would like to see the original version (without Artweaver touchup) please comment; I think this looks better (I only adjusted the brightness, contrast, and stuff), but feel free to say so. I'll replace it. :D

The artist has truly excelled in the use of their medium; a combination of both markers and a colourless blender. Their model is quite well drawn; only two little things bring it down. The hands and chin seem a tad distorted, but aside from those two technicalities the peice is amazing.

The way we look up on the woman implies she is of high importance, and the clothing and apparel match this implication. Her clothes are elequently designed. However, the hat is inconsistant with the character; it sits at an angle impossible from this view and could not possibly provide any sort of practical useage. It also contrasts with the rest of her garments, only matching with a single piece which is the gloves. The umbrella is of fantastic design; the artist has clearly tried to emulate the style appropriate to the outfit and has suceeded tremendously.

The picture itself stands out; but only in the aesthetic principal. It lacks a scene interesting for the casual viewer. It does, however, present itself enough for praise by viewers who prefer a less action-oriented artwork.

Overall, the artist has created a beautiful piece of work with amazing detail and technique. The character is consistent and interesting; as is the style and use of materials. I wish the best for the artist, and hope she continues to draw as brilliantly as she has here.

Also.. the hat was one of the couple of things I remembered from the reference picture. :)

Yeah, Katie only showed me a reference once, so I had to draw it from memory ^^; I also failed to ask her about the personality of the character, so that's why it wasn't action oriented. (We don't have any classes together.. :( )

This is gorgeous! :heart: I really love the parasol! Great job on the perspective. I know how tough that can be.

Also, excellent marker work! Your colouring with them blows my mind! I've never even thought to use the colourless blender like that. Brilliant!

All in all, a stunning piece~! :rose:

I'm with the critique; great with the colors and shading, but the hands and chin are freakin' me out.:omg:

the chin, I thought, was pretty standard anime.. I agreed with the rest of the review, though.
