They do look it, but they're referenced directly from posed figures, so they are in fact accurate. I think our perception of figure gets thrown off because in a lot of art it gets lengthened - the idealized figure is 7.5 heads tall, fashion is eight or nine and superheroes get to be ridiculous, ten or more. Ordinary figures start to look dumpy next to that. I enlarged faces on these a little bit so that's probably what you are seeing.
Aragorn started out looking like Jesus and then the patron asked me to tone down the beard LOL. It's hard to step out of my accustomed groove - Taran is bound to pop out every time I have to draw a man from my head. I have a hard time drawing women that don't look like Eilonwy too.
