Thanks to your support and well-wisheries, I am feeling much better!  THANKS SNAKIES!  I just have a bad cough now, but it'll go away.

SO LISTEN, I wants to discuss a thing with you guys! I've been talking with my editor and we're figuring out what project I'm going to be working on after book seven of Bizenghast is done. I can't really give you all the details (lest CRAZY UNFOUNDED RUMORS occur), but we're debating whether or not to temporarily get a new artist for Bizenghast, so that I can write the scripts for it and still have time to do my NEW series!

Now I know most people would be all "WTFFFF NO NEW ARTIST, BWAHH NO REPLACEMENTS!" But hear me out!  You know that series in Sailor Moon with Ail and Ann (Allen and Ann for americans) and the Doom Tree and whatnot?  The storyline that was made up specifically for the anime, because Takeuchi was having a hard time keeping up with them in the manga version?  They added that new story to give her time to catch up in the manga so they could then go back to basing the show on her comics.  I'd like to think of it like that.  I've been suggesting we get a guest artist who would do the art for a book or two that, while NOT ACTUALLY part of any new Bizenghast plotline, would be WRITTEN BY ME and would be based on scripts and lost chapters that I didn't get to include in the original seven books. You know, like a Lost Vaults of Bizenghast mini-series.

THAT way, when I finish my NEW series, I could go back and start Bizenghast up again for a Season Two, with me as the artist again.

I just don't have time to draw two series at once, but I CAN do the scripts myself and direct it and whatnot.  And that way you'd get to see all the cool adventures you missed out on the first time around.  More Vincent and Edrear rivalry, more Dinah ghost fights, MOAR EDANIEL HATS.  I'd even do a little key art like design the outfits for each chapter and whatnot.  And of course all the storylines would be written by me, from my original material for Bizenghast.  The actual page art would just be done by a guest artist.  Think of it almost like a spin-off until the second season started.

What do you guys think of that?  Obviously I wouldn't want to do it if it will annoy the fans, but I think it would be REALLY COOL.  Plus then you get two new series to look forward to instead of one!

But I want YOUR opinions!  Please use the poll on my journal page to vote! Or explain your feelings about it to me in this journal!  I want to hear your ideas! :3

hmmmm... so long as its similar and doesnt suddenly go into a completely different style, i dont mind so much. Bizenghast would look odd if drawn by Stan Lee.

id say hire a fashion artist so we can have even more outfits and awesomeness, also dont skimp on the new artist get a professionals professional, and make a costumes vault series too

Everyone has already commented, but if I may add my kippers to the stew:

I feel torn. Your artwork is awesome, unique, and so thouroughly detailed I think it would be hard for any artist to live up to fan expectations. Then again, I want moar Edaniel hats..... Really, it's your choice. But if you decide to let a new artist take the reigns, I beg of you to continue with your tarot card chapter dividers.

May your car windows function well.

I suppose it would depend on how the "guest artist" interpreted your work. You have a pretty singular style, and while I wouldn't expect exact repilcas, and am certainly more interested in plot than actual art work, I wouldn't want to see Bizenghast done in the same style of say, xxxHolic, or Utena.

I love the idea, I can't wait to read it.

Ooh, and if you go with this and you're hiring, it would be my esteemed honor to work under an artist such as yourself to bring your stories to life. I'd be a very tactful illustrator.

Well first, I really respect you for having the confidence (or whatever this is?) to believe that your series could be worked through another artist. And, you know, your art is incredible; but I'd really love to see your new series. And the story is the real reason I love Bizenghast. :la:
So, I think this is a great idea!

As much as I'm against stirring new artists into a series - smack dab in the middle nonetheless - I feel pretty okay about this.
After reading your last volume, I was thinking about a previous poll of yours, where I voted for a new series instead of sticking with Bizenghast - and I was absolutely appalled by my stupid choice! I do love this series so!
Ergo, before I let my meandering mind wander even more down my trail of memories I leave lying about - I am all for the extra artist for the time being. I wish you the best of luck on your new series, and I cannot wait until the next volume of Bizenghast :)

I don't mind because now I know the second season is going to be done by you. I mean for one book a guest artist would be fine.

I frankly can't say whether I would buy it or not. It would all depend on if I liked the artist's style. What drew me into Bizenghast was that crazy, detailed, architectural Germanic style of book one. The high amount of detail that you could tell was put there by the artist, not an art software. (I can spot toning, patterning, and reversed image nightmares from a mile away.) And while I'm very happy to see your growth in artwork, frankly your style has changed so much it's light years from the beginning of Biz and I could see you eventually not coming back.

So here's my thing, I've read book series where a ghost writer took over and as long as they can keep up the original 'feel', I'm perfectly fine with them. (Which is why I gave up V.C. Andrews long ago, but hung with McCaffery for years. Her son did well.) And if another artist took up not just a side series, but the original line of Biz, I'd not be too miffed as long as it didn't change things up too much.

My God, look at the snakies coming to hang me.

I guess I just don't want to hear that 'you'll be coming back' line if theres a chance of it not happening. A new series, no matter how short, will still be years of work with new plotbunnies biting you the whole way.

Good luck with whatever you decide. As long as the artwork and storyline impress me, you've got a reader.
TheDreamingDreamer Featured By Owner Nov 14, 2009
i don't know...sure I guess, but I love your artwork and how it makes your story pop out!!! Your art is the reason I looked at Bizenghast, because its so different from everyone elses style. >.<
Cor-chan Featured By Owner Nov 14, 2009
As long as the scripts are written by you, you still do the covers and possibly chapter splash pages, and you have some kind of say to approve the pages, I'd still buy it. At first I was all, "WUT WUT NO WTF," but your analogy to BSSM-R makes sense. I would prefer your art, and I really don't see the point of starting a new series when the first one is incomplete, but I'd go with it.

Also, more Vincent = love.
silvermoondance Featured By Owner Nov 14, 2009
i guess whatever you think best is okay :D
but if you are going to do it, please say in the books that it's not you drawing? so that us snakies can tell where you left off :D
two series would be cool. more martydrawings for all!
tickingcounterparts Featured By Owner Nov 14, 2009
I think, as long as you still have some hand in it, I'd be okay with it. :) I'd still buy it. And it's been FOREVER since I stalked yous!!!! Yay *STALK STALK STALK*

You've got a totally unique style, and that's always gonna be there, no matter who draws it. It'd be cool to see what onther series you come up with, too. I'd say go for it! ^^

I am very confused, but what I think is: if you got a different atist to do the the main plotline of Bizenghast, i don't very much like that idea. Howhever, If you were to get that artist to just do Bizenghast related while you work on a new series and then come back to this one, then that would be wonderful.

Yessss yess!! Anything that provides moar Martaaay and moar Edaniel are always a yesss.

Suddenly I'm picturing Dinah all Camilla D'errico. And think of what she could do for Edaniel's hats...

Should it come to pass, may I suggest [link] as a guest artist? If for nothing else, at least the line art for a book cover.

Well I think that I would appreciate your art more but I see no problem with a guest artist for a mini series and ^^ like you said we get two series at once, so I'm down with it.

You had me at "more Vincent" <3
I buy Bizenghast for the stories and costume design! I think as long as the new artist can properly portray a good outfit, and maybe keep the eyes (please please please?), it'll be awesome! And I miss Vincent!

im fine with you getting a new new artist, it would be interesting and new but only if those books made by the new artist do not contiune series because those should be made by you :)

I like the idea of a guest artist. Or mebbe more than one guest artist, if that's not too expensive. It'd be interesting to see what all someone(s) else can come up with. And if you're writing the stories, they can't stray too far. I'm open to the idea.
xXsexiZexiXx Featured By Owner Nov 12, 2009
i sorta am half and half on that idea. i do understand because that has happened with several other series. thats why clamp and peach pit are there to cover for each other. but then i think that the new artist wont be the same but i cant rweally decide so for noiw until otherwise go for it
sampleText Featured By Owner Nov 11, 2009
You were right, my first reaction was "NUUUU NEVAH gets new artists!" but I think you might have me sold! It would be kinda neat to see the other stories and stuff, like a spin off series. And I would like to see the other series you've been workin' on! That would rock my socks off. So, as long as you promise to eventually get back to Bizenghast within a reasonable time period, aka not a bazillion years, then I think it sounds like a nifty lil' plan! DO IT!

as long as it is not the main super-important plot line, i think it would be super fun for other artists to make some stuff. especially if it allows time for that other series.... 8D

DeathInWonderland Featured By Owner Nov 11, 2009
That sounds like an excellent idea, and it takes a bit off your shoulders too. Which is good, stress is no fun. D: But anyways, I'll be looking forward to it. =D
kamiry Featured By Owner Nov 11, 2009
I have mixed feeling about this. In one hand I would love to see some of the missing adventures (Whether they are drawn by you or not) but I don't know if I would like to put the series on hold, and for how long? If is just for a short period of time the I guess it wouldn't be that bad, I would probably wouldn't mind. Especially if there's more Vincent.

Something that really bother's me in a collectors point of view, I wouldn't want those books to be named "7, 8..etc" Because I wouldn't want to place the Bonus chapters, lets say its one book the 7th at the end so it looks "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9,... 7" I would prefer for the books to be entitled "Bonus Bizenghast" Or what ever, As long as there is no plot development in them of course, very clearly labeled, of course that is up to you in the end.
sadwonderland Featured By Owner Nov 11, 2009
no, it wouldn't come out until AFTER book 7, and it would most likely be like, "Bizenghast: Lost Vaults" or something. NOT actually part of the main BZG storyline!
kamiry Featured By Owner Nov 15, 2009
Then I will give it my supper green light, just hope the guest artist catches the essence of Bizenghast and portrays it
Mukimpo Featured By Owner Nov 11, 2009
I'd dig it.
Nightmayr Featured By Owner Nov 11, 2009
Well of course I love your art the best and would be doubtful anyone could do it as well but I perfectly understand the burden a series can have on you and when another story is fighting to come out of you you really just wanna get on it and screw the other series XDD so I understand where you're coming from and I think that would be cool.

Hope you can get someone talented enough to even come close to doing as beautiful as you do ;) and can't wait for a new series from you either

I like this ^_^ I love your style and the way it fits in with the storyline and makes it work is just right so at first I was D: but then I thought about some of my favorite comic books like Nightmares and Fairytales and how there's 3 or 4 different artists working on the same story... it can be pretty cool! just make sure the artist is awesome and I think this could work.
Aneyana Featured By Owner Nov 11, 2009

It depends on the artist, to me. And I would actually like one whose style was closer to the first volume than yours is now. While I know you've improved technically alot since then; that frilly, sad, china-doll look of volume one embodied the feeling of Bizenghast for me. While your style has, as I see it, gone in a more energetic, exuberant direction appropriate for something more upbeat. I mean no offense; this is how I receive it.
Peter-the-Fisherman Featured By Owner Nov 11, 2009  Student Artist
