No real faces stare at us from plastic figures of the perfect body. Your blank, white eyes peer through the shop glass, trying to catch the gaze of passers by. Tiny waists and six-pack stomachs clothed in the latest fashions stand as examples to us all- `the best way to be`. Dummies, dressed for a purpose in silky dresses, jeans, scarves, short skirts, ties… anything that looks good. Designed to tempt- “be like us, buy our clothes, diet…” - a sign that `perfection’ is finally achievable. You are pin-ups, headlining fashion magazines, and made famous by the people following your trends- the empty `idols` idolising you.Your vacant eyes foll...

Fake
Maybe they were lenses,
But I think you had ocean eyes-
It was hard to tell
Behind the cosmetic fakery;
Lashes struggling to flutter
Like seabirds after an oil spill,
Rose blush,
Powdery,
Flaking
As the far-to-cherry-red
Of your melting lipstick
Marred those overly-white teeth.
The straw thatch of your
Peroxide-drowned hair
Showing darker roots;
And I knew then, in those few moments
I would find nothing at all real
about you or within you.

Metal spines,
Don't bend and break
When the wind blows
And whistles
Through the broken panes
Of the coffee shop.
Plastic Waitress
Will give you a paper check
To sign with a dying pen.
Outside, the newspaper headlines
Are pasted across foreheads
All dressed alike
Vintage colors of blue and green
White is not acceptable
It is too bright
And there is too much of it
In these littered streets.
Garbage treasure troves
Locked away in recycling bins
For gluttons to ravage
Plundering
Through the debris
Left behind by blurred lives.
Sugar-filled pop songs
Crackle over broken radios
Played too often
Emulated too much.
Here, tears are rare

I attended Catholic schools too ^^ (For the whole of my education.) Though I suppose a British Catholic primary and comprehensive are quite different to a US Catholic school. I think your school would be more what we call a convent school over here.
