Bit more on the fanservice-y side. The '90s and early 2000s saw a shift in male athleticism, at least here in the west. Instead of big muscular dudes, people started focusing more on slimmer, faster builds, much of which I'm assuming came about as a result of martial artists like Bruce Lee who prioritized balance between speed and power. Bigger physiques made a comeback for a while, but now neither seem to be much of a huge focus. I'm pretty sure the lean style was what contributed to the advent of femboys later online, but that's just based on speculation. I could be wrong though. Wouldn't surprise me either way.
