Description
Costume is Kusanagi Motoko from the Ghost in the Shell SAC2 OP~
I had some scrap pvc around and needed to do a trial fitting for some later outfits...then it occurred to me that my trial fitting would also be something I could use for an actual costume! haha.
If it looks a little unfamiliar, that's because the outfit is only shown for about 5 seconds in the SAC2 OP video, around the 0:40 mark. There wasn't a lot of reference to go off of, so I just added some white boots in (since she turns white in the opening!) and then tacked some cables in the back to make what is really a somewhat plain design at least a little more interesting. She has a ton of pvc-type outfits that resemble this one in the manga illustrations that usually sport a lot of cables and connectors, so I felt it was a justifiable addition.
this was my first time working with pvc, and only my second bodysuit. fitting the material was a much, much more difficult process than sewing the spandex I used for my last bodysuit, so I had to invent some new processes for working with it.
Both the gloves and the bodysuit are made out of 4-way stretch pvc I bought from spandexworld. I sewed the gloves together in a day, which was a mildly grueling process to say the least.
the suit is fully serged and actually fairly durable, considering how many times I've shoved myself into it during fitting (it's a tight fit! I squeeze in through the top
). I built a bra and shelf lining into the top of the bodysuit using some black milliskin I have lying around for my future ver. 1 KOS-MOS costume.
Overall the outfit's sewing and fit is not quite perfect (it is a trial fitting, after all, and pvc keeps good track of your errors) and I'll probably only wear it one or two more times after this before making some more iconic and better crafted Motoko costumes. Still, I'm far from unhappy with the results, and I managed to have a nice photoset and a fun weekend out because of it~
Rise is also one of my favorite anime opening music pieces, so I'm glad to have made something derived from it specifically.
