Invincible 57 splash by RyanOttley Invincible 57 splash by RyanOttley
Let's start off the new year with some pencils eh? Here's the last page of issue 57 that came out on Christmas eve. Wolf-man was tough for me to draw because I feel I don't have a good grasp on his face yet. I have to draw these books pretty fast so it's hard to make time for initial sketches of characters to see how I'd draw them. I kinda have to figure it out on the page and things change throughout. If I had time I'd get reference on wolves, do plenty of human/wolf sketches and pick a direction I like and stick with it. I wouldn't want it to be too far from Jason Howard's Wolf-man since it is his character, I would want people to recognize who I was drawing but still do it in my own style and interpretation. But yeah, I did the best I could, man how I wish I had more time though. Trying to juggle quality with quantity is one tough bastard.

I just picked up this and your part was amazing (as was the other part). You really seemed to have fun with wolfman. Especially that panel where he's leaping away from Elder. Good stuff.

know what bugs me about Wolf-Man? his face. he's supposed to be a wolf but he has the head of a tiger! the original drawings, i mean, im not saying you've made him look like a tiger!

this is a farking sweet drawing (ive only recently read Invincible vol 1-9 so i only fully appreciate this now lol)

Looks pretty solid for the most part, but I'm used to seeing Invincible in much more lively poses. Something about him comes off as bland in comparison to everything going on around him. I dig Wolf-man a lot.

Looks good, I may have to go hunting for the Invincible issue. But more because I'm a fan of Wolf Man than the principle character. Werewolf as superhero is oddly appealing to me.

I honestly love your take on Wolfman. Jason's is slick, and I love his design, but yours feels a lot more massive and violent.

i think all your versions of Wolfman that i've seen so far look pretty damn mean. When you get into the "standing around and talking" scenes, I don't know how Howard does it. Giving different human emotions to a wolf's head is just nuts.

That issue came out awesomely. I'll be honest, I never would've guessed that you didn't have a good grasp of the character's look. I'd like to see you do Wolf-Man more if you do, actually. Keep donig what you do, bro, and best to you in the new year.

Nice work Ryan. I didn't get the ish yet, but I'm assuming that Cliff is inking it because your pencils are pretty tight. Looks pretty sweet- can't wait to pick it up.

I was a little disappointed by the crossover, I was expecting a real "VS"slugfest between those two!
The art is amazing as always!!!
Have a great year 2009, Ryan! :)

I think you did an excellent job with the Wolf-Man. And I must say that this is one of the most well-done crossovers I've ever read.

By thy side,

Figaro

Just read the issue last night. And I'm gonna be honest with you - I didn't dig Wolfman when I first read it back when it first came out. As a matter of fact me and :iconadamwithers: dropped the book after issue 3 I think.

...but, after reading this issues and seeing what's happened to the character we're interested again. I guess crossovers really do work sometimes. Go figure.

Oh, and as always, awesome work!

You've managed to find the time to get in some of the best 'superhero poses' for Mark and Oliver since issue 52 so you must be doing something right.
