My first Deviantion!!!!! Did this almost exactly a year ago for my business card. I chose this image because not only does it show people what I look like (er, kinda?!) but also gives them a reason to remember the card (and therefore my contact) - 'Oh yeah, that ugly git with the mad face!'. Pencil on A3 paper. I used a photograph as reference but really pushed the extremes - pushing my jaw out and screwing my eyes up THAT much is impossible!
Yeah I should scan in a huge resolution version, I'm not too keen on small res pics, then I go and do it! You wouldn't really see the pencil strokes, their blended to a mush.
Its a result of being a billy no mates and veeeeerrrrrrrrrryyyyyyy softly shading a bit of ex-tree for hours and hours.
What I should've said is that it's not a pencil drawing - I did it all with a red crayon.
Then ate the crayon cos the red ones are bestest.
The title in itself made me laugh so damn hard, just what I needed for a monday...
This is AWESOME. And it does kinda look like you too (not that I mean your face is as screwed up as this o.O) and the pencil work is just amazingly kickass.
Dammit I didn't know you were an animator!! Ah well, now I know, eh?
Only kidding
Yis yis I animate things to put bread and stuff on the table, most of the time its moving shit around tho as opposedf to full on animation, but oh its cool!
I am watched an I'ze appreciates it
....word
amezing :d your very talentive
I can also Juggle archairs whilst taming lions!!!!
not really
I'm right handed, so I start at the top left corner and work down to the bottom right, that way I avoid smudging (check out my skethes, they're a mess!)
Going against what most people recommend I start drawing with a 3H, not too hard as to score the paper. I then build up on the shading through the gradients (HB, 2B - 6B) at the relevant bits. It looks smoother when you build up to a darkness than simply diving right in and shading with something super dark.
Oh yeah, It's not really relevant to this drawing, but I also shade in the direction the form is going in, following the curve of an object if it has one, this way it becomes a subliminal 'grain' that makes the eye 'feel' its way around the drawing as if it was 3dimensional.
I pick out the fine detail with a 0.5/0.7 technical pencil with HB or 2B leads!
When done, spray the beast with hair spray!!! You don't want your new masterpiece getting smudged by tactile feely people. I say hair spray because its a tenth the price of art fixative. Usually the cheaper hairspray works best for some reason
Yeah, so, I've waffled on a bit, but hopefully that answers, I think, maybe, I guess, um....
