Updating is FUN!

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 13, 2007, 11:35 AM
I thought I'd mess around with some of the setting for how the journal displays stuff. I'm a CSS noob so I used Icyworlds journal editor--> www.icyworlds.net/about/css to generate the code (for those that may want to know).

Just out of curiosity does anyone know if it's possible to change the color of the area outside the journal box? And I've noticed that a few of you have added specific gallery groups (ususally along the left hand side when viewing the main gallery). Anybody got a link to a tutorial on how to do this?

I accidentally got logged out for some reason (the beta version for some reason does this every time I preview my journal), which was not good considering I had'nt logged out ever and did'nt even remember my pw or email attached to my DA account (OOPS!). Thankfully I'm back up and running though (Thanks Maureen!)

Other fun activities have been renovating a house I bought recently. Painting is almost done. Replacing all the doors, baseboards, and casing. Just finished gutting one of the bathrooms which is going to look way cool when it's done. New floors, appliances and furniture are on their way in january.

House stuff and shoveling snow. Gotta love the snow.

BTW, yes I'll be posting some goodies in the next little while.

-Ryan

P.S: Just so I don't have a boring looking journal enrty I'll throw some images from my gallery in here for no particular reason.

Yeah its been a favorite soundtrack since the game came out. I've "your not here" in my playlist multiple times. I'm also a big fan of "end of small sanctuary".

I was really glad when they used #3's music in the movie.

I know that my journal CSS was provided graciously by a fellow deviant.
I've modded a few lines of code here and there to make it my own, in a way, but for all intents and purposes, it's not really my code.
I think there is a link hidden in my journal somewhere...
Let me look for it.

I can't speak on the CSS journal stuff...I stole, er, borrowed someone's code to make the simplistic look mine has, but I am grateful that you posted your works in your journal, saves me the trouble of sifting through your gallery to see your wonderful stuff.

Renovating a house sounds like a ton of fun :D Very creative :D

Hmm to do the Gallery grouping, just pop into your main gallery. Near the top you should see a blue button that says EDIT. Click that.

To start with, every piece of your gallery is automatically a part of the Featured page of your gallery. Click the blue arrow button underneath each deviation to get the dropdown menu that allows you to either remove the deviation from Featured (anything not Featured only appears if they've been marked in a certain group or if the viewer clicks Browse).

To make a Group on the left or right side of your gallery, click the blue notation that has a + shaped button that says New Folder under it. That creates a new Group that you can then rename (and you can rename again at any time, add or delete folders). Then you put pieces of your gallery into the various folders by using the down arrow I mentioned above that lets you see the dropdown menu and choose a folder to add the piece to.

You can make some custom changes by clicking Options at the top. It allows you to remove a Scrapbook page link from the top (the new page links for galleries is Featured, Browse, and Scrapbook). You can choose how your folders should appear (as Icons & Text, Icons Only, or Text Only), and you can choose if you want the folders to appear on the left or right side of your gallery.

When you're finished, click the blue button near the top that says Done and your edits are done. You can edit at any time :D

Awesome thanks!!

Strange it would be such a simple task but if you don't know about the blue button (I guess this is a newer feature), you'd be left scratching your head.

Thanks. The new features are sometimes hidden in plain site.

yeah... i kinda don't like them.. they make it harder to find people's scraps... or else more people need scraps, one of the two.
and the mature filter is annoying when trying to submit work now.. you HAVE to check whether there is mature content or not, instead it automatically assuming there isn't any.
