Life of Ry - Modern Games by Ry-Spirit Life of Ry - Modern Games by Ry-Spirit
What happened to the days when we could just buy a new game, shove it in the console and play the damn thing anyway?

Same procedure if you give a android mobile phone WLAN access. But it is no problem if you are playing a Nintendo 2 DS, only if you download it from the Nintendo Store :) (Smile)

Good point.  The Nintendo Switch is using cartridges now, which I think is a step in the right direction.

The reason games on optical discs (CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays) need to be installed is because the console's hard drive has a higher data transfer speed than the optical disc drive will allow.  Go back to cartridges and no game will ever need to be installed on a hard drive ever again.

What ? This is like the worst thing in the world ! Nintendo is doing shit with this Mini NES ! It's just emulation, not even true retro games ! I wouldn't pay 60$ for this...
Plus you can't add games, unlike on the Neo-Geo X...

Why would anyone want to buy such an overpriced novelty item, and don't say "Nostalgia"?
Reply
:iconbemari:

Well, my own NES has only one controller working anymore and the D-pad isn't working correctly, so if I can have a working NES with controller that won't give me a tenosynovitis and bunch of games I never owned (and which are really expensive to buy these days) then why wouldn't I buy it?
Reply
:iconkarkava:
Karkava Featured By Owner Sep 15, 2016  Student General Artist
Because it's a novelty item that seems to be catered towards "hardcore" Nintendo fans. How so? Well, number one: It's delivered in a small little USB brick that hooks up to your TV "FOR THE TRUE NES EXPERIENCE!", number two: It only contains a vast assortment of already popular and well known titles that have already been released in the United States "TO RELIVE YOUR CHILDHOOD MEMORIES!", and number three: You can accomplish giving a cheaper bundle of these games by just offering it online. And don't tell me you can't play a four button and d-pad game with a controller that has thirteen buttons, two thumbsticks, a d-pad, and a flipping touch screen!

I understand your point of view. I don't own newest Nintendo consoles so I can't buy old NES games online and since I'm not playing that much videogames these days, this novelty item seems a nice toy for casual retro gaming. Altough after little pondering, I might buy it from the bargain bin.

Y'know you can just get an emulator on your computer or mobile device, for free.  Or get one of the countless more affordable retro consoles that have been out forever, instead of paying Nintendo for their overpriced bullshit: www.toysrus.com/product/index.… - www.toysrus.com/product/index.…www.toysrus.com/product/index.…  Yeah, you won't be getting Nintendo titles, but really, Nintendo charges way too much for those old NES games anyway.  It's ridiculous that I can get 20 Sega Genesis classics on Steam for a dollar, and Nintendo wants $5+ on the eShop for the original Super Mario Bros.  Which, by the way, Karkava is right--you could just get Steam and get countless affordable games, both retro and modern.
