Aha. I know I've done nothing to promote my book or build any sort of preliminary fanbase, but I am writing a book. And since I know there's at least one person following me who would be interested in the topic, I've decided to start giving little previews in journal entries.
So here's preview #1:
The three POV characters in my book are shaping up to be:
1) Victoria Rosas - Half-Hispanic, Half-Wunese (Ref: present-day Eastern Chinese), heiress to the precarious royal throne of Pinkbury. Aspires to become a valiant holy knight like the legendary Cascadian knight Jade Richter, whom she idolises. Her motivation is to find her lost younger brother. Starts her story en route to San Francisco, Pinkbury from Shanghai, Wuland. Conceptual Class: Paladin.
2) Darren Wesley - Half-mixed-British, Half-mixed-Eastasian. The son of two powerful magic-wielders, but hasn't figured out how to use magic himself. Cynical and pragmatic idealist whose foremost devotion is towards his friends and family. His motivation is to make a new life in Seattle, Cascadia, and then eventually becomes to rescue his younger sister if she still lives. Starts his story in Kyrie, Texas, near Tyler, Texas. Conceptual Class: Ranger.
3) Joya Jain - Indian-Virginian (who, in the book's world, are known simply as "Virginians"). Youngest sister in a line of powerful mage-siblings (mostly brothers), who all die. Was close to her older sister (who also dies) before the incident that sparks the beginning of her story. Begins as a cheery, relatively normal girl who doesn't really have issues, and likes food-gardening. She's captured and taken to a re-education camp. How she ends up after this, I have no idea at the moment. Her motivation, I imagine would start out as wanting to stay true to herself, coupled with survival. Starts her story in rural Virginia. Conceptual Class: Druid. Toying with the idea of Ninja/Druid as the re-education camp's tortures and training begin getting to her.
I feel like I'm going to be having so much fun with these three.
I kind of want a fourth POV character who's male, to balance things out, but I can't think of a good natural arc for this hypothetical him :b Although, an interesting idea might be - if I can think of a good arc for it - a Canadian freedom fighter who is under the tutelage of Yorick Rufflebottom, a Canadian hobbit hero and friend of Jade Richter.
