Alright just finished Voltron and I got some thoughts. Right from the get go of episode 1 of season 8, they ruined the ending by giving an incredibly obvious signal that Allura was gonna die which, I hated but made even worse when the ending came true. Honestly, the ending felt as if it ripped a lot from Gurren Lagann, the anime that came out several years prior where several people died near the final battle, the main robot combined with its vessel carrier to create a super robot to combat yet another super robot and finally, the main female love interest of one of the protagonist died while helping to preserve the rest of existence while every goes on to live happy lives with the main male love-interest honoring the now dead love of his life while the mechas used to fight now longer serve the heroes. <- Seriously this is a point for point retread of Gurren Lagann and that is rather boring.
I feel like something more wholesome and something less bittersweet would have fit the mood of the Voltron series much much better as every situation with a 0% chance of their victory was turned about by some last ditch plot armor that saved everyone and leaving the series on this note has me feeling... well bitter. No matter how bad things got, you could tell from the get-go that the story and its characters would be fine but watching it go out on this obviously ripped-off bad note really left me with a sour taste in my mouth and while yes, I loved the ride I was on, don't think I'll come back to the series for repeat views simply because of the ending.... ironically enough like Gurren Lagann. Still funny that Samurai Jack was the only series to make that type of ending work in my eyes, hahaha!
