Lightning Breastplate Tutorial by Ruby-Hime Lightning Breastplate Tutorial by Ruby-Hime
This was my first time making armor so my methods are hardly easy to follow as I was experimenting with the entire process. So I apologize if this is hard to follow, please feel free to ask if you want me to explain how I did something more. I hope this helps at least. T^T

all I saw from a distance was panel 3-4, and I thought, "Is this a tutorial for making a sports bra or something???"

Amazing. I had attempted my armor i wonderflex..( not the greatest thing to use). But wish I saw this before. I have a question how did you take the armor on and off? I had struggled to figure this out for both the top and belt piece

Duct tape, velcro, you name it, I literally had pieces falling off after a few hours, rofl! It stayed on long enough for what I needed it for at least. I just didn't have enough time to plan that part out. X3

You mentioned that you put a few layers of fiberglass resin on the back to firm it up, so how sturdy is the front for normal movements through crowded hallways?

First things first what an amazing result on the first attempt I'm very impressed. I usually screw up and have to start over on such things. My question is how did you measure using your body? also what kind of card stock did you use?

recently our anime con has just ended and I'm already trying to prepare for next year. The character I wish to cosplay as is none other than one of my very own original characters! Part of the clothing is armor such as a breastplate to draw it  I actually used Lightning's as a reference, don't worry I didn't copy it although it has similarities it's entirely different.

Mine has pauldrons that will attach the back and breastplates together, the pauldrons are the shape of wings =>

this is awesome! I was just wondering this is just the front but how did you connect it to your body? Is there a back? thanks :3

The grey stuff is just craft foam, I think that was 2mm thickness there, cheap to buy from any craft store in 11x12 sheets, some have bigger sheets as well~
I'm glad you like it, I hope it's useful for you and good luck on your armor creation~ :D

Thanks I'm glad you liked it ^^ Hmm I'm pretty sure I used the 9 guage galvanized Multi-purpose wire.. erm, this stuff [link] It's pretty heavy duty wire and was a pain to cut with normal wire cutters and manipulate into the shapes I wanted ;-; but with it being heavy duty it's also proven to be quite durable. :)

I don't know why, but I think this is the easiest way to make armor. Or this is almost only one what I could explain myself, how to do it :D When I start to make my first armor cosplay, I definetly going to use this tutorial. Thank you (:

It was an experiment for me since I had never made armor before, I was happy with the end results but I know it isn't the easiest method out there, just working with what I had on a low budget, lol. I'm glad you like the tutorial though :) it makes me happy if I can help people with by showing my crazy methods.

Is that Breastplate is easily breakable?
Because I want to do a Lightning Warrior Goddess cosplay and I don't want it to break! :)

The way I made it is actually quite sturdy, although the foam pieces like the bird ornament are easily breakable (thankfully it's all still intact). On the back of the breast plate I actually painted on two layers of fiberglass resin to make it more sturdy(and heavier) but it's held up very well so far.
I understand your fear of breaking something that you put a lot of work and effort into making. >.< Good luck on your armor!
