Alternate US Flags: North Dakota by rubberduck3y6 Alternate US Flags: North Dakota by rubberduck3y6
The flag is based on the coat of arms of North Dakota. The three stars symbolise the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government and the three countries which have ruled the area - Spain, France and the United States. Each star has thirteen points to represent the thirteen original colonies and to give a total of 39 points to represent North Dakota as the 39th state to join the Union. The fleur-de-lis reflects North Dakota's past as part of the Louisiana Purchase, while the gold and green colours represent the state's rich agricultural lands.
