so I don't pop by often and I've neglected my little space here at dA....but as it's almost xmas and I'm between terms at university I thought now might be a good time to do a feature journal.

The first 25 of you to shout out will get one of their deviations featured here in my journal, you can either let me know which you'd like featuring or you can leave the choosing up to me. :)

Ready,

I'm starting a one year Foundation Diploma in Art at my local college of further education in September.

To be honest I'm pretty nervous, for one thing I'll be surrounded by students who are a lot younger than me and the other thing is that I am fairly clueless about anything that isn't a pencil but I've leapfrogged other courses because of my portfolio.  I just hope the tutors don't get ticked off with my incessant stupid questions. :D But I am also pretty excited about it too!!

So looks like I'll be back to the art after doing very little of it for about a year and half and terribly neglecting some very inspiring people here on dA who deserve better from me. Sorry chaps and chapettes! :(  feel free to berate me and tell me how crap I am, I could do with a good kick up the arse. :D

I've decided that it is high time I continued with my zodiac series of drawings but I'm struggling to find suitable reference pictures.

I've already asked in the resources forum for help but I thought maybe I could hold a contest, I'm not entirely sure how to go about it though.

The problems that present themselves with a contest are that I only actually need 7 of the 12 zodiac signs and who should I give prizes to?

What I'd want to gain from the contest ideally is 7 suitable ref pics, but I realise that it may not even result in one usable photo, so should I initially offer a 12 month subscription for the best 1-3 pictures regardless of whether or not they are useable but then perhaps give subs for up to 7 deviants if I'm lucky enough to gain 7 good refs? .... and would it really be acceptable to only ask for the 7 signs I need and stipulate that I need permission to draw the photos?

In the meantime, if any of you know of any good reference pictures I can use, or places I can go to search please let me know.

These are the five drawings I already have in my series
Taurus by RTyson Taurus    Gemini by RTysonGemini Aries by RTysonAries
Scorpio by RTyson Scorpio Sagittarius by RTyson Sagittarius

So I am still on the lookout for Cancer, Pisces, Aquarius, Libra , Leo and Capricorn.

Is there anybody still out there?

Can't believe it's almost 8 months since I last wrote a journal.

Unfortunately I've not much to show for my hiatus, done precious little on the old art front really.  But I've been back in my shedio this week so with any luck I'm going to get back into the swing of things.

Aggie is doing really well, our vet said that her muscles have built up really well in her legs which is great as it takes a lot of the strain off her joints, so that's good.  What isn't so good is Alfie started losing weight in May so we took him to the vets and it turned out he had lymphoma cancer, he died 10 days later in the car on the way to his favourite walkie spot. He was only 4 just like my first bullmastiff, Abb.

Aggie really missed him, she started using me as her wrestling partner so I was black and blue from rolling about on the rug with her and she whined a lot when we went out for walks, so we started looking for another rescue pooch.  And boy did we find a doozy!  Enter Gulliver (Gully) 29" of pure nuttiness, but a real gent too.  He's a cross breed, we think mastiff and something else, but not sure, anyway he's big and loves cuddles. I'll upload a photo of him.

So, what about you? what have you been up to lately?

Bad Kitty and Eddie Izzard

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 8, 2009, 11:00 AM
I should have done a new journal ages ago because I had two promises I needed to keep, but in my defense, I've been feeling a bit off recently. Still I'm very naughty and I'm sorry. *smacks self*

Something that cheered me up immensly though was a family trip to Manchester to see Eddie Izzard at the MEN Arena last night, curtesy of an early Xmas prezzy from my father-in-law.  It's the first time I've had an evening out in about 8 years!  Oh but Eddie was fantastic, so funny!  You know when you get that ache in your head just behind your ears when you laugh too much?...well I got that and this morning it felt like I had a hangover!...what with slow bears, coughing giraffes, trumpet playing hens and Ancient Egyptian news readers. If anyone gets the chance to see his Stripped world tour then I highly recommend it....£30 well spent!  Got the compulsory t-shirts too, a 'cake or death' one each for myself and Dani, my daughter, and an 'I'm Jeff Vader' one for Mike, my son.

News on the Aggie front is that we've only raised about £530 of the £2200 we need for the surgery, so it looks like the surgery won't be happening anytime soon, the vet has her on meds which have made her so much more comfortable and as long as we don't let her go bonkers when we take her out for walks she gets by most of the time without limping. The money that we have raised will still go towards treating Aggie, but as the surgery may not happen, I realise that those of you who donated for that reason might want to use your donation somewhere else so I'll refund your money if you wish.

Right then the promises:

1st of all Liz aka Goten0040 was one of the lovely people who helped get the word out about Aggie, now last month her mother lost ger job and the family was hit pretty hard financially so Liz wants to help towards the family coffers by offering commissions.  Her prices seem to start unbelievably low so if you want to bag yourself a bargain and help out a fellow artist, then please pop over to her page and send her a note.

here's an example of her work Simply Helena by Goten0040

Secondly, I helped to judge Cataclysm-X's Couples and Duos contest and offered a prize of featuring the winners, so without further ado, here they all are.

You're the reasonYou're the reason I'm picked on
But you've long since gone
I'm your son
And look what you've done
You divorced mom when I was child
You have my number, but you've never dialled
I used to lie awake at night
In hope not spite
That you'd walk back through the door
Just set foot on my floor
Now I lie awake at night scared
Getting ready, getting prepared
Prepared for if you walk through the door
Prepared for if you come back to cause more
More destruction to little old me
For I no longer know who you are or what you may-be
I'm only seventeen yet that information is long-since lost
Like a whisper in the wind or a friend double crossed
I have but two memories of you with the family and such
And even remembering them is too much
Too much for me too handle
Feeling alone, like a solitary candle
And you wouldn't care if I burnt and faded away
You woudn't even know, because you didn't stay
You don't even send money to help us along
Just left us, but we're united, we're strong
We make it through li

So, it was my birthday today. My MIL gave me some flowers (2 days ago?) and my FIL gave me £50 so I bought myself a new bottle of Bombay Sapphire, which I'm about to open (don't worry quaddie I'm not planning on sending any notes out tonight lol! )

Anybody got any good jokes?

Who put that frigging wall there?

Journal Entry: Mon Sep 14, 2009, 6:57 AM
I'm pee'd off...

I don't feel like drawing, but I need to draw. Everytime I pick up a pencil, I can't seem to get into the swing of it... I've got a couple of commissions for a friend I promised to do, but I'm really not in the mood, the photos aren't good and the money is worse....I know I have to do them but when I'm not in the mood I know they won't be good.

I've just lost all enthusiasm.

We're miles off getting anywhere near enough money for Aggie, hubby has no job and I'm supposed to be home-educating my son.

lol!

Don't mind me, I'll get over it.

Features.. ..closed...'til next time

Journal Entry: Mon Aug 24, 2009, 4:21 AM
At the bottom of my last journal I offered features to the first 15 people who commented...now either not many people wanted their work on my page or they'd fallen to sleep reading the first parts of my journal and missed it.

Also littlegett is doing a tag feature and as I commented on his journal I get to follow his rules too:

Here are the rules ^^

For each of the 15 first people answering this journal I will put his/her avatar and the three deviations I like from his/her/its gallery on the list.

If you answer, you'll have to do the same in your journal, putting me on the first place, completing this way the list with 15 people. The idea of this is not to get a free feature, it is to spread art around for everyone.

I'll be featuring those who answered my last journal and the next 15 to answer this one....if there are that many :)

'Get Dring Mobile' - Postcards

Journal Entry: Sat Aug 15, 2009, 12:42 PM
Back in June I told you about hnedy's journal and his quest to raise money via a mystery postcard sale for his mate Mike Dring hnedy.deviantart.com/journal/2… some of you pledged your support and offered to send a postcard sized piece of your art for the sale and I just wanted to remind you to get them posted off to Vincent ASAP and for those who missed that journal, there is still time to join in, the deadline for getting your work to the sale has been extended to the end of August...so get creating.  If you don't feel able to donate art you could buy a ticket for the raffle Vincent is also holding, the prize being a commissioned portrait...imagine winning a portrait from this guy hnedy.deviantart.com/gallery/ for just £5!!! :faint:

                    ----------------------------------------------------
                      ----------------------------------------------

I'd also just like to say a HUGE Thank You to those people who have donated, bought my drawings and sent good wishes after my request for help in raising money for surgery on my pooch Aggie. You have my undying gratitude.

I still have some of my work available for sale in aid of Aggie
rtyson.deviantart.com/journal/…

---------------------------------
-----------------------------

I also think it's about time I did another feature journal, so if you'd like me to feature a couple of pieces from your gallery, or someone else you think deserves one, then let me know who and why as a comment to this journal and I'll feature the 1st 15 requests (you can even tell me which pieces, or I'll pick them myself) :D

For Sale ---- Edit

Journal Entry: Thu Aug 6, 2009, 10:57 AM
Edit:

Just got back from the specialist orthopaedic vet...Aggie also has a ruptured cruciate ligament in her right knee so the surgery estimate is now £2500, not including the £300 already spent on x-rays and the such. He says she has an 85-90% chance of getting major improvement from the surgery and a longer life expectancy.

But we have to keep our fingers crossed that she's not amongst the 60% of dogs whose other hind leg's cruciate ligament will rupture in the upcoming years.

So if anyone's got a couple of thousand quid floating about that they don't know what to do with, I'll sell you Bourne.

----------------------------------------------------------------
I need to raise some money pretty sharpish.

Our beautiful rescue mastiff x, Aggie, needs surgery to her right hind leg, she has a luxating patella. We weren't aware of this when we adopted her 4 weeks ago, but there is no way in hell we will be sending her back to the RSPCA, she was there for almost 7 months and besides she's already part of the family.  Unfortunately because she's a rescue and the condition was pre-existing, pet insurance won't cover the cost.

Aggie, Mastiff by RTyson Aggie by RTyson

Anyway, I need to get some money together to pay for the surgery, ( we're talking in the region of £1500 to £2000, not sure exactly but will find out on Thursday) so I'm offering some of my drawings for sale if anyone is interested.

These are the ones I can sell:

Originals

Small: about A4 size

Baby Giraffe by RTyson The Pounce by RTyson

Medium: A3 ish

Angelina Jolie as Mrs Smith by RTyson Gothic Stipple by RTyson Amy Lee by RTyson
Catching raindrops by RTyson Time for a Cat Nap. by RTyson Hugs by RTyson

Large: A2 or larger

Keira Knightley by RTyson Cherished by RTyson Gerard Way by RTyson

I also have A3 prints of the Brief Encounter drawings available:

A Brief Encounter by RTyson Celia Johnson by RTyson

Please send a me note if you are genuinely interested in buying a drawing stating which you are interested in, baring in mind that the bigger they are, the more expensive they are going to be and I'll let you know the price.

I'm also considering adding the AVP scratchboard to the list, but shipping will be very high due to the fact that it needs to be kept flat. Alien vs Predator Scratchboard by RTyson

One or two kind people have asked if they can donate a little without buying a picture, so I've set up a special paypal account just for Aggie at aggieslegs@live.co.uk for those who would like to donate.

The chances are that I'm not going to be around dA very often for quite a while.

School hasn't been a happy place for my 13 yr old son these last two years, he has Asperger's Syndrome and sticks out like a sore thumb from the so called 'normal' kids.  Anyway a week or so ago a pretty scary event took place and I realised that he really wasn't safe in school despite the efforts of the teachers, who seem to be able to do many things except throw the bullies out.  So to cut a long story short, we've decided to pull him out of school and will be home educating from now on, which means I'm going to be pretty busy at first trying to find out everything possible about the way forward for him.  He's a very smart kid with an extremely inquisitive mind, so it looks like I'm going to have my work cut out...but I'm quite looking forward to our journey, I think I'm going to learn a lot! lol!!

Sooo if you don't see much from me it's not because I'm ignoring you or don't care what you're all up to, it's just that I'll probably be falling asleep everytime I get chance to sit down and relax.

If there are any other Home Edders out there I'd love to hear about your experiences.

Wish us luck!

Can You Help?

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 18, 2009, 11:48 AM
Hi everyone, first of all I'd like to say thanks very much to everyone who said nice things to me earlier this week, it helped a lot! Even though I can't seem to change the tearful mood emoticon thingie.

Now secondly, and this is important, so listen up.....HEY YOU!....AT THE BACK!.....CAN YOU HEAR ME??....okay, good.

If you don't have hnedy on your watch list....and you should, he's fantastic!!....but I digress...if you don't watch him then you won't know that he's asking for donations of small pieces, A5 to be more specific, of art to help raise money for an old school friend of his who's neck was broken in a road traffic accident.  So he's not asking you to donate money, I know how skint you all are, but hey so many of us do art, surely some of you can donate a small piece of that!  I've already signed up!! :w00t:

These pieces are going to be sold as mystery art for £50 a piece and there is going to be an exhibition to which the donating artists will be invited.  Apparently there are already some pretty fantastic artists who have pledged to donate...so you could be rubbing shoulders with some serious talent...YAY!!

So anyway go and have a look at hnedy's journal hnedy.deviantart.com/journal/2… for all the relevant details, and please see if you can help, even if it's just spreading the word in your journals.

oooh and don't forget to check out his gallery hnedy.deviantart.com/gallery/ and add him to your watch list.
