DeviantArt Filter v5 is Nearing Completion

This is a total rewrite. Now that Add-Ons for Firefox and Extensions for Chrome are 95% identical, I am finally able to convert this to something much more powerful than it could ever be as a user script.

Here are some current screenshots:

(Apologies if your name is in those screenshots - its nothing personal. Those are 100% unedited screenshots from my test build, using test import data, and I didn't want to replace/obscure anything.)

Some of the new features include:

  • Tag Filtering (y'all really were persistent with this request)
  • Category Filtering (hopefully - I haven't started working on the UI for this yet)
  • Sorting and paging through filters (for those of you with 1000s of filters)
  • The export system now generates actual files for you, and the import system uses those files (including drag-and-drop)
  • Full support for translations, although I will need the community to provide translations for languages other than English
  • Performance improvements for just about everything

If you are interested in being an Alpha tester, let me know. At this point, the Alpha will probably be limited to just Mozilla Firefox, and will probably NOT automatically import your old filters. I'm looking for people who actually want to test it out (rather than just use it assuming everything works perfectly), and ideally people who can file bug reports with enough information for me to actually fix the problem(s).

I don't really have a timeline, and I don't exactly want to set any dates, but rest assured that I really want to get this shipped.

Straw Poll - Browser Add-On/Extension vs. Userscript

For those of you using deviantART Filter (or anyone interested in using it), could you please weigh in on this straw poll:

I am in the process of writing a proper Firefox Add-On and Chrome Extension (so no more Greasemonkey or Tampermonkey!), but I would like to understand which version people prefer. Ultimately, supporting both versions is a little more work, and may prevent new features, but if most people prefer the userscript instead, I would like to take that into my considerations.

Beta Testing Firefox Add-On & Chrome Extension Versions

If you are interested in beta testing the upcoming Firefox Add-On and Chrome Extension versions, please let me know. I am still not 100% certain how that will work, but I know it will be important to have people testing before these versions are publicly available.

Category and Tag Filtering

I know this is a feature everyone wants back. If there were a way to re-implement it (after the last dA update), I honestly would have released that feature by now. Unfortunately, the only way I have found to add it now would severly slow the script down, and you would briefly see deviations that should be filtered while the categories and tags are loaded for each deviation.

That said, moving this to a proper add-on/extension should help with performance, and may also open up new/better ways to loading the category and tag data, so this feature is definitely still on my list.

Please note that I can code all of the above designs to be valid (X)HTML & CSS web pages, so let me know if you are interested in that. Contact me for more information and pricing.

I am willing to sell just the PSDs for the above designs if you prefer to do the coding yourself. Contact me for more information and pricing.

Note: All of my old designs for my personal sites are also for sale. However, many of them are not up to current trends; as such, I am willing to sell them at a reduced price.

I do both web design and web development. I can create a custom web design just for you and sell you the PSD, or I can take the time to code it into a fully valid web site. Contact me for more information and pricing.

I have done a couple Steam skins for clans in the past, and I am willing to do some more as time allows. These go up in price considerably if you are on a short deadline. Contact me for more information and pricing.
