This is another design for a used car dealership; this one was tailored towards the needs of my client (The Car Shop), whereas the other Used Car Dealership design was made as a template and tweaked for the client after design work was finished.

This was my first try using the headings that break out from the page (with the slight 3D effect). I admit I really like the effect. My only concern is the contrast between the dark text and the red banner; using a white text seems to have too much contrast, and the grays in between are even worse.

I spent most of my design time tweaking their logo, as the client really did not want to change it significantly. After that I spend a great deal of time coding the AJAX to pull their inventory from an external website, as there was no way to retrieve the data in simple XML/etc. form.

I am open to suggestions on this one, especially in the logo and headings.

You can see it live here: View Live

Note that the live version has some changes due to the client not being able to supply some content until a later date.

EDIT - 08-28-2009:
I changed the text color in the headings (the red banners) from a dark gray to white, making them much more legible.

Yet another great design! I'm loving the header style you're going about this time, it works very well! The slight gradations are very slick, and is something I love seeing in websites. But yes, the only thing I though needed changing was what you already mentioned about the text on the red banner. Have you tried desaturated the red banner itself, or do you think that would break it off of the overall design?

Well, the client really liked the bright red. On the live version (live version), I am using white text on the red banners for now. Personally I think the white is too strong, and I have tried almost 20 different shades of gray in between white and black, and they all look even worse.

I could try de-saturating the red, as I haven't experimented with that yet, but, like I said, the client loves red. They go crazy over red cars, so they were excited to see the red being prominent and bright in this design.

The other option would be to use images for all text on those banners, so that I could use a gradient, but I hate to do that. Right now it uses regular text, so it is really easy to edit and great for accessibility reasons.

Let me know what you think of the white used on the live site; perhaps I should just stick with that?

I actually think white is fine. It does stick out, but the fact that it does is great. I wouldn't worry about it too much, everything looks amazing on the live site. I'm sure they deeply appreciated the fine work! I'm actually now interested in this shop... even though I live in Virginia. ;)
