There's an even easier way.
Download shadowkiller:… a
Run the app. It will launch and kill all of your shadows system-wide and then quit.
Launch it again and it will enable the shadows again. Add it to your login items so that it will kill all of your shadows when you startup your computer.

Way easier.

Yes, but the thing is that it is not fully compatible with Mavericks. It may seem to work on older MacBooks (2012 and older), but does not work on 2013 MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro Retina. You may think that since the software is the same, there shouldn't be any issue. But, the integrated graphics on the newer ones do not support ShadowKiller. Nocturne is the best way to hide windows shadows for newer Macs. I think you may have an older mac (2012 or before).

i think we all realized we need shadows right ? i was shadow free for a few days, and let's say it, it's not good, since os x windows don't have borders. two finder windows will look horrible if placed on each other. and that's one exemple.

Well, you got a point there. Everyone is just so minimalism-oriented that they don't even care anymore. I would suggest waiting for the OS X 10.10 beta to come out. Its probably releasing in some 15 days. You can sign-up here :…
