River Rak In Weavers Cave

Tkalca Cave is the sink siphon of the river Rak and the natural conclusion of the beautiful and unique valley of Rakov Škocjan near Postojna Slovenija. The river here goes into underworld and after flowing in darkness for 3 kilometers comes out as Pivka river in the confluence of the Planina cave. The name "Tkalčeva" comes from "Tkalec" that  means weaver master. The legend says that He was transformed into stone statue for punishment, because he worked for holidays when working was forbidden and to do that he used to worked secretly in this cave out of the sight of others. 

The cave is 400meters long and in rainy months can be entirely submerged by water ... if you look closer on the photograph in the dark area on the right you can see tree trunks and other material indicating the high of the recent waters.

Rakov Skocjan Valley need at last half a day to be discovered but I suggest a full day excursion, there is also a nice hotel in the middle of the valley with restaurant and all other commodities a Tourist can ask

The entrance in teh area is for now free of charge and the caves can be visit at your own risk...but the learning trail is well marked and for anyone... 5km to 7km long trail... around 2-3 hours of unforgettable hike
