Omf guys I can't even believe this just why?? Here me out I'm not even jumping to conclusions there is a show about 5 year olds and sexual tension and parents SUPPORTING the ideas--

So we have f r e a k i n g Hanamaru Kindergarten
Review by royalraptors
(Why are the ratings so high t f)

I'm scrolling through Crunchyroll trying to find a interesting new series to start I've never heard of before and I come across this. My first thoughts are:

-this is a kids show like caillou or something
-this is an all-age show that's cute and funny

I read the review and it makes me uncomfortable, but they're 5 year olds it's cute and funny and no dark intent intended and it's a misnomer...right?

but no

n o

I decide to watch the first episode because maybe I'm wrong

MAYBE out a group of dozens of writers, animators, voice actors, etc, there couldn't possibly be a unanimous vote that "hey lets ship a grown man and a kid together and it'd be great"

but nah

The show starts out innocent enough, they make sure to keep everything appropriate, the main little girl antagonist Anzu meets her teacher on the sidewalk on the way to school and claims that he's flirting with her just by standing there because she saw a tv show about it. As soon as the mother returns to walk the child to school, the teacher "is running late" and runs off before he can meet the mother. During the school meeting Anzu happily claims that he was flirting with her in front of all the kids and parents causing all eyes to go on him, purposefully creating sexual tension between the teacher and Anzu. Somehow his stuttering makes everyone believe him even though if I was a mother I would believe my child before anyone else. Of course the teacher portrays absolute no interest in the child but instead with one of the other teachers his age, which is comforting, however he later meets up with Anzu's mother, a girl he went to school with. This mother also married HER teacher when she was of age, causing Anzu's desire to marry the teacher to amplify. The mother supports this relationship making the teacher very uncomfortable adding even more sexual tension.

I WANT to believe this is just a silly little show and I'd enjoy it if it weren't for the obvious tension the writers intended.

I got a few screenshots from my cringe fest if you don't want to have to go through the pain yourself:

So you think this show went too far, or is it just a misunderstanding?

Having read the series it seems that the anime is fucking up the source material, I won't say it's not wrong, but later in the series things start to make more sense. It's more like parental love later on.

Also: Lotte no Omocha.

The idea of a young girl being romantically paried with a much older male is already cringey to me, due to the likelihood of sexual abuse, but the fact that the girl is a kindergartener makes this even worse!  At times, the fact that a number of American anime fans actually like shows like this make me embarrassed to admit that I like anime.

Please don't read any of the below if it makes you uncomfortable, and I apologize in advance for any discomfort it might create. ^^"

Okay, since this is long and people likely stopped reading it after the first two or three examples, let me just sum up my point here; PEDOPHILIA is when the adult is attracted to the child. It is considered a mental disorder, disease or illness (I can never seem to get the three right; feel free to shout at me to correct me :D) and the stress related to having it is just as bad as any other serious mental disorder.

  • "Teleiophilia (from Greek téleios, "full grown") is a sexual preference for adults.[14] The term was coined by Ray Blanchard in 2000.[15]"
  • Or… or "Today I hope I am going to make you squirm with extreme discomfort. I am going to talk about a subject that is very nearly taboo, even on the Internet. That subject is pedophilia, or rather, its opposite, adultophilia, the sexual love of children for adults." (from…)
This show revolves primarily around Teleiophilia or Adultophilia the attraction towards adults. Most adults fall under this category today. However, there are also children who fall under that category. :)…
This. ^

Pedophilia: "sexual feelings directed toward children."
(Taken from Google.)

"Pedophilia or paedophilia is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children."
(Taken from Wikipedia.)

Pedophilia: "sexual feelings or activities that involve children."
(Taken from Merriam-Webster.)

"Pedophilia is considered a paraphilia, an 'abnormal or unnatural attraction.' Pedophilia is defined as the fantasy or act of sexual activity with prepubescent children. Pedophiles are usually men, and can be attracted to either or both sexes. How well they relate to adults of the opposite sex varies."
(Taken from Psychology Today.)

"A pedophile is a person who has a sustained sexual orientation toward children, generally aged 13 or younger, Blanchard says.

Not all pedophiles are child molesters (or vice versa). 'Child molesters are defined by their acts; pedophiles are defined by their desires,' Blanchard says. 'Some pedophiles refrain from sexually approaching any child for their entire lives.' But it's not clear how common that is."
(Taken from WebMD.)

"....consults various experts who testify that sex between adults and teenagers has been accepted in various cultures since the beginning of mankind. They’re even so good as to remind us that in religion, the Islamic Prophet Mohammed’s wife was allegedly six years old when she married (nine when the marriage was consummated) and the Holy Mary was supposed to be between 12 and 15 when she gave birth to Jesus. Pedophilia in the Catholic Church just became a little bit clearer. "
(Taken from…)

"While the Bible does not specifically state how old Mary was when Jesus was born, most Christian historians speculate that she was around 15—16 years of age at the time of Jesus’ birth. According to Jewish customs at the time, a young woman might become betrothed to a young man as early as 12 years of age, though the consummation of their marriage through ceremony and physical intimacy would not happen until they were legally married, many months or even years later.

In Luke 1:39–56, we learn that Mary traveled from Galilee to Judah to visit her relative Elizabeth. She would have had to cross a great distance though the territory of Samaria. We do not know if she traveled alone, with servants, or in the company of other family members. However, there is a great likelihood that, even with adult escorts, Mary would have needed to be both physically and emotionally mature enough to handle such a journey."

(Taken from GotQuestions?.org.)

"One very remarkable thing about Mary is that she would almost certainly have been 12-14 years old when the angel Gabriel appeared to her. We know this because the common custom at that time was for girls to marry early, at that age. The Bible never gives Mary’s age when she got pregnant or gave birth to Jesus, and that is because when something happened that was common in the culture, nothing was said about it."

^Please don't read the above if you do not feel comfortable reading about faith written from a believer of that faith.

To put my personal opinion in with all this garbage; I couldn't give a crap about age differences. It's the mindset that matters to me; someone the same age could pursue a person (of the same age) who is constantly pushing them away, heck someone the same age could STALK someone of the same age. I find that creepy, to say the least. And by stalk I mean serious stalking, such as following them home, finding out their daily routine, but never approaching them, etc. Not crush-like stalking where they follow the person throughout the time where they normally see the person, if they do normally see the person. :)

A pedophile could do the exact same thing. I think personally that if both people agree to a relationship with a huge age-difference, then what right do other people have to judge? Just like all minorities in history; NOPE THAT'S DISGUSTING AND GROSS. Of course if only you find it disgusting and gross (and this is on a personal level; not something similar to 'It's disgusting and gross and everyone thinks this way, so the person writing this comment is going to get a ton of hate because they violated a common belief,' or any other generalized view that I may have missed. ^^" Sorry if I do miss your view, and please do know that I don't categorize people based on their morals, beliefs, or anything like that) then I believe that be normal. I find mushrooms to be disturbing on a personal level; yes that is still relevant to this conversation.

And then there's the people generalizing anime with all these bad things; well, there's only so many people you can speak to in this world. There are some anime out there, like Your Lie In April, that are slice-of-life animes that really show something deep and not 'messed up.' (As far as I can tell; there are people who can call out wrongs for everything, right?) I myself can't say anything about it because I've never been a live-action person, however I would like to again make the point that it's the mindset that matters, not the dislike or like. I dislike live-action because for some strange reason, I have a severe disconnection with actual actors, and the 'bad acting' or 'good acting' that other people can see; well I'm blind to it unless it's to the extreme. This doesn't mean to say I like only anime; I just prefer animation. That's all. Personal preference. Nothing to get all seriously fussed up about, right? There are acting movies out there like Fifty Shades of Grey or Secretary. I'm still giving other movies a try though, but personal preferences win in the end, heh. Of course there's also the fact that we're human and there's bound to be people who have a firm belief one way or the other. :)

Sorry if you didn't mean for me to go ahead and spend an hour on this post. ^^" You can always remove it if you like, because of course, we're all human. Not that I won't get offended but I do understand if you hide this, heheh.

And also I actually do love many anime shows; this one in particular unnerved me with its content themes

So no I'm not trying to group anime together as a whole and call it trash

Nah, I'm not a butthurt kid who takes offense every time someone doesn't share the same opinion as me

As long as you aren't doing illegal things or whatever, this is an opinion-safe zone, even of course if I think differently of it

Personally I think pedophilia of any type isn't okay (the age of consent in most places including the US is 18, where it can be 15-16 in some areas, and even 13 in others, I personally think the closer to full maturity such as 18-25 would be better)

Even if the child in the relationship is consensual, even if the adult in the relationship isn't trying to manipulate the child to get something in return, I still don't support it

Because though puberty and the ages up to 18 and even over in some cases, children go through hormones that make them feel sensitive and morally unstable and will want to do things they later regret later in life

Be it a relationship with someone 20-30+ years older than the child

I believe it can be immoral even through just what society chooses to like and dislike, and I feel like there should be a somewhat high level age of consent so the young adult can then decide if he or she would be okay with making this commitment rather than a younger child making decisions they haven't had experience or knowledge in and may make remorseful choices

Children, especially through puberty, may have uncontrollable attractions to people including adults, but mature people should know better than to attempt to have relationships with children as they may change their minds on how they feel once they mature themselves, by then it would be too late as some form of relationship was already made to whatever level it be

Okay, This wouldn't be a bad idea if the anime was more about a little girl who was crushing on a teacher in a adorable way, because you know, there have been kids show where little kids crushed on someone older than them and the older characters would usually just spend time with them or be friendly to them, treating them like they were their little sibling, but this? O-o; This idea is a bit...creepy.

It's messed up, but to be completely honest....
This isn't nearly as bad as Boku no Pico....

Nothing is more messed up than that anime. No way in a million years.
I'd watch this whole anime over just one episode of Boku no Pico.

Y eah I heard it was really graphic with incest intentions and it's gross but it's hentai and will have bizarre concepts

this is supposed to be some slice of life anime about a little girl wanting to marry a grown m a n

its so c r e e p y
FoxesBringFlowers Featured By Owner Jun 1, 2016  Hobbyist General Artist
And I look up a little on the anime, and it had shown it's a comedy.
So it's not really meant to cause any harm, it's just to make people laugh.

It's one of those animes thats are like: "This is supposed to be funny even if it's kind of messed up. You either laugh at it or hate it."

So it's probably best just ignore the anime for what it is, because I'm sure there are a few just like this and could possibly be even more messed up (to those without that kind of sense of humor).

I'm not trying to protect the anime in any kind of way, I'm just saying there isn't much you can do about it and just move on to an anime that suits your taste better.

I do get your points and I did point out that of course no relationship actually happens between the two, but the concept in itself is a bit questionable

But your points are very solid

Thank you, I've been in debate groups.
It's kind of a habit for me to get into thinks more than I really should and try to point out all the details I can gather ^^;

But I'm glad you agree with my points.

It is creepy, but if you taken from the Japanese' point of view.
They might just find this as a way to be funny.

Americans have different sense of humor than Asians, so if you think about it, this way bother us, but it could just be a ridiculous, funny, anime to the creators and viewers.

Just a a way to make money.

I can see how it's kinda suppose to be a comedy since the situation is so messed up, it could make some people laugh, or just the fact that some of the adults, if not all I haven't seen the anime, in the anime are okay with the whole thing.
