qubiq room 4.4 2560x1600 by rotane qubiq room 4.4 2560x1600 by rotane
2nd Update, 2015 (version 4.4):
This wallpaper has been in my gallery for 12 years now, and it has, simply put, become too small. So here it is again, updated to a more adequate 2560 x 1600 resolution, which also means i've changed the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:10. Enjoy!

1st Update, 2005 (version 4.1):
Due to my recent re-render of this image (check blue, red, and white versions), I decided to update the original as well. So this is a shrunk down (1600 x 1200) version of the new 6000 x 4500 px render. Enjoy!

Original comment, 2003 (version 4.0):
This one was done with a student-copy of Cinema4D.
The modelling was simple enough, but it took one hell of a time to be rendered. Enjoy this 1280 x 960 px wallpaper!

Thank you so much for the Update!

This WP is an all-time favorite of mine... :D

...and in "wallpaper-history" one of the few standard classics... ^^

One question remains: How long is it going to stay big enough? ;)

Thanks so much for the kind words!

Well, you made once the "6000 x 4500 px render" (as you wrote) and I believe you saved this file carefully.

This dimension should stay sufficient for the next generations of retina displays...

And if not, you re-did this WP in 2006 for dual screens, so I hope it would be possible to redo it again with today's CPU powered machines much bigger and faster... ;)

(Hätt'ma jetzt natürlich in unserer Landessprache noch viel schöner schreiben können... das "englische" Internetz halt...)

True, i still have that 6000px file – obviously. :P

I just checked; that latest 27" iMac has a resolution of 5120 x 2880, so we're safe a little bit longer, but not that much! :o

If you're referring to the dual-screen one, i don't actually have that one any bigger. And to make a new one, i'd have to get a copy of Cinema4D again. Could be done of course, if i can be arsed…

(Passt scho… ;))

As long you have the original "4D"-file it doesn't have to be your own computer to render it bigger (for formal copyright or tax terms... ;))

How did you come up with this...I love the way it seems like the boxes aren't actually joined together, but slotted in place, yet the structure holds perfectly.

Now that would be trippy! But really, I'd had to start all over again, because all the cubes have no colour really, there is just one coloured light in the room. So I dunno, maybe some day, if you're quite patient ;)

Well, you should've asked me BEFORE that, to get permission to use it. I'm no exception, this is a general rule for copyrighted material. Giving credit is NOT enough.

However, I won't take action against it. I give you permission to use it in the way you did. But for the future, always get the artist's permission FIRST please.

4D, as in "Cinema4D", as in "yes: a program", as in "yes: software", as in " no: not photography" :D
4D, as in x,y,z and 4th dimension being time (you can also make animations, not only stills).

Beautful. But there needs to be some more color added in this. Make certain places stick out giving it a focal point. None the less good work

This is a prime example of how something thats seemingly very simple can turn out to have a huge amount of complexity and look just awsome. I like the top left corner in particular.
Top notch work.
