Ah, shake 'em, shake 'em down by RosaZaira Ah, shake 'em, shake 'em down by RosaZaira
Happy (belated) birthday my dearest Severus! Sorry I was unable to post this on the 9th but I still managed to squeeze it into January!
Lily and Severus bust some sweet moves while Petunia contemplates murder. (Also, 70s interior makes me nauseous, how did people live in houses decorated like that? Haahaha!)

The song is, of course, 'Do You Love Me' by The Contours (1962)

I agree with Gryffgirl about Severus not being much of a dancer, probably more due to a lack of opportunity and interest than potential talent (book canon shows him to be rather agile on his feet, he could have learned if he so wished I believe). I do imagine he can waltz decently, tho (at least in my universe he has to have SOMETHING to fall back on, since Lyn is actually a very good dancer) But in this he seems to be doing pretty well! I imagine Lily was well versed in the dancing styles of the 70s herself, so Petunia should stop hatin´just cuz she can´t keep up :giggle: You know there was just a soap opera on here in Brazil that took place in the 1970s and they did a huuuge research work for the clothes and interior design...Gotta say while I loved the fashions, I wondered how could people live in those brown-orange drab interiors myself... And weeee lookit the doggie again (I remember him from the gift you drew for SunnySorceress a while back! )

Well... (Headcanon time!)
I don't think young Severus was a good dancer at all. He probably suffered from two left feet and was very self conscious about his body/movements.  However, I imagine wee Lily to be quite a successful dancer. In my head she probably did a bit of ballet while she was at Primary school so felt more confident with her movements. I also have the headcanon that Lily was largely shaped but the time period she was living in (the clothes, the music, the films...) I see her as a free spirit who loved to dance about her room singing along with 'The House of the Rising Sun' into a hairbrush. When dancing with Lily, especially to Petunia's expense, Severus would probably feel more confident.

I believe that when the Malfoy's took young Severus under their wing they ironed him out of many 'bad habits'. They probably taught him how to carry himself (and not be so hunched like we saw in Snape's worst memory), how to have more grace and manners, how to dance traditionally, etc. Probably tried to eliminate his accent too! I image the Malfoy's to have an English accent with heightened received pronunciation while Severus had his working class
Manchester accent!

Haha, yes! The dog returns! :D

Poor Petunia . . . I can't imagine not busting a move to the Contours.

Wait a couple of decades and people will be laughing their heads off at the decor of the Teens. All fashions look ridiculous when they're no longer stylish.

I know, I already cringe at old photographs of myself! :D

There's no need to cringe. Just laugh at the stupidity of people who think new fashions are actually better than old fashions. They're not better, they're just newer. If a fashion, old or new, genuinely appeals to you, then stick with that, aand let the fools follow the trends.

P.S. For another take on Sev, Lily, and Tuney in the Seventies, see my "Summer of 1970." janach.deviantart.com/art/Summ… It's in black and white so I don't have the garish colors, but the Evans girls own exactly the same record player. I suspect we both found the same photo reference on the web.

I don't think that new fashions are superior to old fashions. If anything, fashion and its relationship with history is something that has always intrigued me. I find that fashion is a great insight into the culture of its era. I do agree with sticking to the styles you like though. Even though I am still young, I've seen the type of clothes I wear come in and out of style a few times.

Haha! Yes! I have seen this piece of work before quite a while back. It never occurred to me how similar our pieces were! (Apologies!) Yes, that must have been the case. :D

I love this picture and I love that song!  LOL--in my mind Severus isn't much of a dancer at all, but who cares when you're a kid?  You just jump and flail around anyway!  Also, as someone who grew up in the seventies I can only laugh when I remember the brown shag carpet, wood panelling, orange sofa and chrome and glass tables in our family room.  However, like the Evans' decor in your picture, it was totally stylin' at the time! :iconlava-lampplz:

Thank you! :glomp: The song is brilliant isn't it? I love a bit of The Contours.
Haha, of course Severus couldnae dance, I doubt Lily could either. But you're right! They are kids so who cares! :D Watching wains dance is one of the funniest things to witness.
Uh-huh, I based the Evans's living room largely on my Gran and Papi's during the 70s. I actually exaggerate though, I do have a fondness for 70s decor. :D
