This is :iconglobalstreetart: with our ninth interview with ewil33 Interviewed and Edited by RoosterStencil!!

Where are you based?

I'm from Bratislava the capital of Slovakia/Eastern Europe.

When did you begin painting graffiti?

Somewhere between 1996 and 1997 was the first time I got my hands on cans but I didnt paint that much back then, mostly just taggin and bombing.

How did you get into graffiti and what made you start painting?

I think I saw some throw ups and bombings and just wanted to be part of this game. I think the need to say hello world I'm f*cking here was what made me paint.

How did you choose the name Ewil?

It's the society which is evil there for i chose to tag ewil with VV like the mirror image of society.
People only judge other people not themselfs.

Do you write with any crews and if so which ones?

I'm down with point3 crew, my homeboy PRIMAL and homegirl SEPH.

How would you describe your style?

Tricky one. I don't think i found my style already. I'm always trying to push my boundaries a little further so it kind of developes but mostly I'm into 3D wildstyle and stuff like that.

Where did you paint your first piece?

Under a bridge!

What are your feelings on the graffiti and street art scenes in the
Slovakia at present?

I don't really know. I'm trying to stay out of this scene. I'm trippin on the fact that people are arguing who is better and who got more style and shit like that. I don't give a fuck about this. I do graff because i want to, because i love it, because that is what I live for and I don't care if somebody likes it or not. I'm not a fuckin athlete and this is not a competition to me, I write for myself.

Have you done many collaborations with artists overseas or
travelled abroad for your art and if so then where is the most
exciting or interesting place you have painted?

Not overseas but I did few abroad. The most exciting for me was the united colour jam in Czech Republic. I made a lot of new friends there from czech republic and from poland too.

Do you see yourself as an artist or a graffiti writer?

Right now none of it. Graffiti belongs to us to the streets not to some gallery owners. I don't mind graffiti in gallery I just don't want anything to do with the artworld and its officials. It always fucks up the game when money is involved, just look what happened to rap and how it changed.
And writer, not really. Im not bombing as much as a writer should. This is hard to explain, in some way yes I'm a writer but not the exact definition of it. I would say i was a writer once and now I'm muralist or something like that.

There is a very fine line between those who view graffiti
as art and those who see it as vandalism, what are your views on this?

This is just like anything else. The good and bad principle is in everything. I think you can't say graffiti in general is art and neither vandalism. Like painting - not all paintings can be considered as art. it´s personal. It's like plastic surgery, when you see a girl with huge fake breasts does she look good? some people would say yes she's beautiful others would say a she's a freak. Graffiti can't be generalized.

Have you ever 'felt the long arm of the law'
because of your art and if so can you tell us about it?

Yes couple of times when i was younger I got caught twice but since they didnt have a photo or video of me and they couldn't find the cans I got away with a small fee for tresspassing.

What is the biggest risk you have ever taken for your art?

Once me and one friend of mine we were hidden under a train because the security guy was passing by and they started to pull it away so we had to roll out and run away. That was a stupid risk don't f*ckin try that kids!

Where is the most obscure place you have ever left a tag or piece?

Cop car.

What is your preferred tool for making marks with?

Cans and markers.

What is your colour of choice?

Any colour, but I do like to work with gray.

Whats your Favorite Piece you have done?

None of them, I only like my pieces at the moment of creation after one week I'm always bitching what's wrong with it. I don´t think I'll ever be satisfied because one can always try harder and do better.

What are you working on currently and what plans do you have for the future?

Currently It's f*cking raining so sketching on some canvases, and plans? I don't know lets see what comes around. I want to make a tour through europe this summer but we´ll see, I'm quite patient.

What kind of music are you into?

Any kind of music, but I prefer metal and rap. Metal because of the melody structure and rap like Public Enemy - lyrics with soul!

Anything else you would like to add?

Kids clean up that mess you live in, your block is your playground.
Big up to all writers out there!

Thanks for the time Ewil...

So yeah man. this guy was a top choice. One of the calmest, level headed writers I've heard talk, and he has mad insight. I would love to paint with dude.

Props for bringing this to light. Cheers folks. =P
