I apologize in advance for this comment (a lot of it is a bit transposed from a comment I left on *s-kmp's photo of the same eagle), but I felt that the same things I pointed out in his comment applied to this lovely artwork as well. So, here I go:

Why is this drawing so brilliant?

I have grown to love ballpoint pen drawings because of the lovely details and shading some people are able to capture. You've definitely captured that and brought the art form to a whole new level.

I love the emotion and life you were able to capture in the eagle's eye. Usually animal drawings miss that, and offer a flat and unlit eye, but you captured the light and shadows so well. I can almost imagine the eagle blinking and vigilantly scanning his surrounding.

Throughout the entire drawing you captured the play between light and dark well. Every detail was brought out in this drawing, the same way it was in the original photo. The beauty of the eagle, the details of its beak, every single feather was exquisite. This was something I could see in a museum or art exhibit.

I was blown away when I viewed this in full screen. You paid such painstaking detail t the feathers and highlighted every fibrous detail of the feathers. The shadows across the eagle's face and body was so impressive.

I'm trying to find something that could have been improved on but everything was extremely well-done in this. It's obvious that you are skilled in this technique. Maybe the feathers under the wing joint could have been lightened up a bit more because that one spot seems too shadowed and my eye tends to skip over it. But, honestly, that was stretching to find something to critique--this entire drawing is just excellent.

Thanks for taking the time to critique this. To me, the best thing about this drawing is it is only like my fourth time I used ballpoint pen!I have plenty of practice to do, but I have all the time on the world! Thanks again, Ron.

Thats absolutely stunning. Your technique, shading and angels are all perfect and also the shading. i would have thought that this was an image but its not. Fantastic! The lighting is amazing and the texture and details on the feathers and beak are perfectly detailed. I see nothing wrong about this piece. just pure perfection. <img src="…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/> but which ball point did you use? I went to Staples and the ballpoints weren't that good but thanks for this stunning piece. Fine training and prating in hopes of being that amazing and perfect as you are ronmonroe.

-Your sincerely,

Thanks for taking the time to critique. I get a lot on inspiration from Samuel Silva [link]. (who I consider a friend) I bought these pens at Wal-Mart and paid $1.99 for a pack of ten. They are just black bic pens. I think it's fun to create something with something as simple and cheap as a ballpoint pen!

Those feathers look amazing! It almost seems as if this bird is the only thing in existance with the black background and the way it stares at you. Almost like a human stare. Beautiful work. :D
