It's been a rough couple of months for me. Earlier this year I suffered a back injury that has taken months to heal (and still healing), and it has effected my work output... hence the lack of posts, lately. On top of that, Northern California's power outages has been an expensive and time consuming ordeal for those of us, here in California (google news on "PG&E safety power shutoffs" to learn more).
But anyways, I am getting caught up with work, and so you should see some art posting up, over the next few days. How is everyone doing? Well, I hope!
Just wanted to remind you all that I have a twitter, and I have been pretty active over there, lately. DA will always be my internet home, and it's still the best place to contact me, but I like Twitter, so if you prefer that format, follow me there:
At long last... Nude Pinups! *GASP*
Those of you who have followed me for many years know that I used to do nude and light erotic works. I wasn't very good at it back then, haha but I did them. However, when I first took the leap to become a full time professional artist, I had decided to stop doing nudes, all together. Not from lack of enjoying that s
Commissions are closed!
Well, they've been closed since Monday morning (pacific time zone) but I forgot to edit the journal. XD
Thanks to all who applied! I got some neat characters to draw, and they should be coming out for everyone to see in short order. :)
I just finished up the last of my commissions, and now I am gonna take a break and focus on personal works. I'd like to start trying to post every day, or every other day again. Just silly little sketches or whatever comes out (not taking suggestions, I just want to be free to let my brain do it's thing). :)
For those who are looking for when I will open commissions again, don't worry, I'll advertise when I am ready to take more work. And no, asking me over and over will not get me to open sooner. ;P
Alright, see you all next post!
Man, I have been biting my tongue lately, because I'd rather spend the hours of my life focusing on moving forward towards my goals, than dwelling on the dismissible things that irritate me... and ultimately, the source of my frustration is coming from just a vocal minority...
But damn, I am tired of the pedantic comments on my fantasy warrior pieces. Specifically, concerning the minutia of what weapons the fighters should or shouldn't be using, in what combination, against whatever equipment the foe is using.
Hey, I love me some history studies. I actively study historical use and design of medieval weapons and armor on a fairly regular ba
I got a great question about style and art, and I wanted to share my answer, in case anyone else found it interesting or helpful. It's just some unfiltered thoughts, though I'd like to write a proper article about it, at a later date. ;)
Question: How do you achieve the style of anatomy your characters have? Do you have specific models that you study, or is it something you do based on study and knowledge of anatomy?
My Style Background: I started studying art in earnest at the age of 12, and have been drawing steadily since then, and I am 34 now. So I have a good 22 years of experience under my belt. During that time, I have studied all so
Commissions are now officially closed!
Thank you to all who sent me commission requests! I am still reading and going through them, and filling in the last few spots. I will respond to you whether you get one or not, so please be patient, as I am but one man, and there are many of you! XD
Thanks so much everyone!
So, I've finally decided to open commissions, after over a year-long hiatus! If you are interested in requesting a commission, please be sure to read the info below, thoroughly. Commissions do not open until the 20th of April, so please do not send requests before then! I will likely overlook them.
Accepted Work and Price EstimatesI am looking to do the following types of work:
- Character work (10 slots available)This includes a single, full body character, no background. This is best for those of you who would like to see your characters visualized in my style.
Base Price: $200 per character, plus any additional fees ($50+) for extra de
First off, happy new year, everyone! My first week of 2018 has been very pleasant and relaxing, but it's time to get back into the swing of things! I have some new art coming out soon, but while I finish them up, I figured I'd gather some new questions for my next "Tips for Artists" journal. I've learned a lot on my journey to make my passion a career, and picked up a lot of good little habits that I'd love to share. I've got lots more to talk about, but I figured it'd be a good idea to go ahead and ask you guys: What do you want to know? Go ahead and give me your top questions about offering commissions, running a Patreon, or anything else,
It's been a while since I did the last one of these! The last one was such a hit, that I felt a fair bit of pressure to make sure that any future "Artist Tip" articles I write are presented in a clear and useful way. That takes time, and I have spent most of my time building and growing my own career. But lately, I have been getting a ton of questions, specifically how to grow an audience. I know a thing or two about doing such a thing, intentionally and with purpose. So, I figured I'd collect my findings here, and share them with anyone that might find them useful. But just as I said before, these are just my opinions on the matter. They are
Lately, life has just got me feeling really happy, and fortunate. It's not that I am usually a sullen or depressive person... far from it, actually. The last time I felt like I was depressed all the time was when I was a teenager, or a young adult... Back when I didn't feel like I had any control or agency over my own life choices. I've been a free adult for a long while now, and that freedom gives me happiness. It's not like I don't get stressed though. Having freedom means having goals, and having goals can be a lot of responsibility! And with responsibility, comes stress. Never the less, I feel I have gained a good perspective o
Check out this kickstarter by a friend of mine!
I did the concept art for the Corsair Mercenaries, which happens to be the first stretch goal! If you like scifi war-gaming or just want to add some bad ass minis to your games, check these out!
If you are wondering why I haven't been replying to comments as swiftly as I usually do, it's because the new inbox for DeviantArt is a bit cumbersome to get used to.
Every time I send a reply, a "reply successful" notification appears at the top a
I recently received a business inquiry from the form on my website, however, the email address given is not active, so I cannot respond.
So, I'll just respond here:
I appreciate the interest, but I am not currently available for hire, at this time. ...
I am still looking over and responding to commission requests, so if you haven't heard from me, don't fret! I'll reply as soon as I can, regardless of if I accept or decline your requests.
Due to the large number of commission requests I have receive...
I finally got caught up with messages! Since I started posting on DA, I've endeavored to reply to every comment I get, and I have no intention of stopping any time soon. I just need to not let them get so backed up, like I did this month. XD
I am sorry I haven't been able to reply to everyone's comments, recently! I saw all the wonderful birthday wishes, and the lovely comments on my recent posts, but I just haven't been able to spend the time to sit down and reply to them all....
Ok, I am preeeetty sure I replied to every commission request, whether I accepted it or not. If I somehow missed yours and didn't reply, then let me know! I don't want anyone feeling ignored, even if you didn't get accepted. I got so many great ideas...
Commission response update! :)
I am still working my way through emails, and I have mentioned multiple times that I will reply to every email and note, whether your commission request was accepted or not. If I have not replied to you, even if you sen...
Just a reminder to those interested in commissions, please do not send more than one request. Spamming my inbox won't help you get a spot, and both DA Notes and Emails notify my phone, so you don't have to worry about if I check one more than the oth...
I am already starting to get some early commission requests, so just as a friendly reminder, I will start looking at requests on April 20th, on Friday, 10:00am Pacific Daylight Time (UTC/GMC -7:00). That's tomorrow morning, or about 12 hours, for me....
I have always been a fan of fit and strong women, but this last drawing of the cave elf girl has really shown me how much I enjoy drawing a muscled physique. I don't want to go overboard with the muscles (and even that is up to interpretation it seem...
