Any users making a Halloween Thomas production this year?

Cactus190706 & ShunterProductions (being veteran kings of making great Halloween Thomas content) don't appear to be releasing anything so quite curious to see if someone else or a newcomer makes something good :)

Not really big into remakes of episodes like 'Haunted Henry' or 'Duncan Gets Spooked' or any classic series episode that's spooky; no offense to those who probably will release a remake soon, but I tend to prefer to watch the original episode for Mitton-nostalgic driven motives.

I definetly know TardisRescue & Terrier55stepney have one or two installments from a few years back. Hoping anyways that something new comes along :)
Everyone tends to categorize different era of Thomas, which makes sense, because when you look back on the TV series, it's actually been one big clusterf**k of different production companies, management, writing style and quality etc.

So today I'm here to discuss the Miller Era (Seasons 13-16 & its respective 4 specials), and the current BWBA era.

Ok, before I begin this,

I'm not trying to compare or consider one era over the other. Honestly? I think both are pretty bad in their own ways. But that's not what this article is about.

Instead I'm here to point out one glaring element that the Miller Era did better than the BWBA era.

Misty Island Rescue & Season 14 onward
Again, not comparing here. But let's take a look at the ending of MIR. Sodor builds up the Search & Rescue Centre with the help of the Misty Island idiots and the special wood from the island. This ending (and the underwater tunnel) clearly establishes a link between Sodor and Misty Island, from this point onward.

Sure enough in Season 14 onward, we see this in full swing. Thomas goes to Misty Island for jobi wood, the Logging Locos come to Sodor to learn to be useful or whatever. Misty Island's inclusion in the series is made clear, as we know there is a literal link between it and Sodor.

If an episode starts with Thomas on the island, we know by now that offscreen he travelled there to collect logs or something.

But now let's compare it to,

Big World Big Adventures & Season 22.
BWBA ended as follows. Thomas & Nia arrive to Sodor, and everyone there wonders, "Wait, where's The Fat Controller?" to which we're abruptly cut to TFC on a ship asking Ace for Thomas's whereabouts.

It's a cliffhanger ending, and with the big promotion for S22, making everyone aware that Thomas is going to travel abroad again in the next season, we're left wondering if this scene with TFC and Ace is leading up to a link to future episodes.

It doesn't, as episodes such as 'Number One Engine' and 'Trusty Trunky' prove. This isn't a bad thing but,

We're given literally no explanation as to why Thomas is suddenly abroad again. Why is he in India? Why is he in China? How long is he staying in these countries? Has he ditched the island of Sodor yet again for these excursions? (Probably). And how is he still present in the Sodor episodes, like, where is the continuity? (Personally i had hoped the Sodor episodes wouldve have focused on the others while Thomas f**ks off abroad, ala 'Thomas Comes Home' in the RWS)

Both of these episodes just start with "I WAS WORKING ON THE CHINESE/INDIAN RAILWAY" and, that's it. It's abrupt, and just, random. And that was only the start of multiple issues with those episodes, to which I just gave up caring at this point. We all thought Thomas randomly ditching his branch line to be on the mainline or wherever on Sodor was bad and inconsistent enough :L

What's the overall Point?
Basically, the Miller era in its link between special and proceeding season, has consistency and continuity in it. MIR's ending basically tells us "Yes, Misty island is gonna be a thing now in the series", whereas in BWBA, there's no continuity. We don't see Thomas heading off again to attempt to find the Fat Controller, or make a plan to travel again, instead its just an abrupt comic relief cliffhanger and thats it.

You can't say in S22, "Oh the events of BWBA the movie never happened", because Nia at Tidmouth Sheds instantly puts that down.

What are your thoughts on this?
Remember, I'm not comparing one era over the other, I'm saying the link between MIR and S14 onwards, was better than the zero link between BWBA and S22's abroad episodes.
Two episodes into Season 22, with an episodes off & on Sodor and...... it's not looking good at all.

I went to Twitter to see if anyone else had similar feelings, and indeed people do.

I'm gonna wait and see what the next 3 episodes bring this week, but honestly, it's not looking good at all.

In brief so far,
*The lack of continuity is appalling (Why exactly is Thomas abroad? How come he's present in the Sodor episode if he's supposedly travelling the world? Isn't he supposed to be looking for the Fat Controller with Nia etc)
*The supposed educational aspect is forced, and the writing is so dam clunky.
*And, Gordon has Aspergers Syndrome? His behaviour towards change (Abrupt, angry temper tantrum) is strongly striking resemblance towards children with said syndrome. (I worked a year long internship dealing with autistic children, I know traits when I see them)
*So basically one's problems mean nothing if an African woman misses her friends all because she chooses to abandon them to follow Thomas to Sodor, all righty.

I'm gonna give the next 3 installments a fair chance, but at this rate it ain't looking good :/
Favourite Thomas OC (Original Character)
I saw this trend on Twitter in the fandom recently where people were highlighting their favourite fanmade Thomas characters.

Most of these were in a list, and I enjoyed reading them, because most people gave explanations, I agreed with most of them, and! my own OC (Old Grump) appeared twice in the top 10 of people's lists.

I wanted to join in on this, but I didn't really have the time to properly sit down and think of all the fanmade characters I've seen since 2008 (Blimey I've been in this fandom a while now)

So I thought I'd think of, who my *favourite* one is. And that, ended up being not only the FIRST OC I ever saw, but one that's been criminally unmentioned so far: Archibald.

Anyone else remember this guy? Created by Sparkshot, The Railways of Sodor, a series which STILL holds up superbly despite being 10 years old.

Here's my overall reasons for choosing Archibald as my favourite OC character.

* He was the first one I ever saw online, as already mentioned.
* The Railways of Sodor: Episode 8 Part 2, was the SECOND ever Thomas video I watched on Youtube: the first being a Thomas tribute video, which ironically, used clips from Sparkshot's series.

So he's got a lot of nostalgia going for him, but now for some solid points.

*Archibald himself. A big pompous tender engine isn't original whatsoever, but Archibald has a twist: in that he's pleasant and humble towards other big engines, but flat out ignores and looks down upon small engines, thinking they aren't useful. That is before he breaks down and is rescued by Bill and Ben. A cliche part of the story but still good nonetheless.

This scene in particular is both brilliant and hilarious.

Thomas: Aren't you going to say something to me?
Narrator: Archibald said nothing.
Thomas: Are you not going to speak to me?
Archibald: Oh yes of course, of course.....GO AWAY! You're spoiling my image!

*Archibald is still a unique-ly written character. Sure there is OC characters that are arseholes, but I can't think of any that are as, specific, as Archibald.

*Voicework. Archibald's lines and voice delivery is excellent. He sounds like he was voiced by a 70 year old man, (Sparkshot's grandfather perhaps? Just guessing), and it suits him down to the ground.

If there's anything to go, AGAINST Archibald, is that,

He's briefly inconsistent. In his first scene upon arriving at the docks, he politely introduces himself to Percy, and kindly asks him to show him to the sheds. However the next scene onwards, he refuses to speak to, let alone LOOK at the likes of Thomas, Percy, Bill & Ben, thus the conflict begins.

It's a mild continuity error, but does make me feel that Percy's role should've been swapped with James, Henry or Gordon.

So yeah, that's my favourite OC to have ever come out of the fandom. I'll probably end up doing a complication of others who definetly deserve a shout out too, but in time when I can do just that ;D

Hindsight; i had more time than I thought, so here's my list of OC's that stand out to me, that I'll expand upon soon, try guess where they come from,

*Smokey Joe
*Duke of Gloucester
*William
*The Flying Dutchman
*Jonathan
*Tornado
*Tetley
*Dudley
*Sheffield
*Barry
*Nigel
*Horwich

Well I saw 'Big World Big Adventures' and it was....a thing.

It wasn't terrible, but I thought it was bad for the most part, was mostly let down by a lack of plot, a lot of rushed visuals (ie: a lot of dockyards and locations looking like redressed Sodor locations) and major inconsistency with Thomas's personality in compared to previous specials and CGI episodes

It kinda seemed like they were trying to make it feel like a Disney movie, right? All the songs gave off a sort of Disney-esque vibe,

Is it the worst Thomas special ever? Hard to tell. It's certainly the special that has the least amount of a 'Thomas' vibe to it, but I wouldn't instantly mark it as the worst when there's other, debatable installments like Magic Railroad & Day of the Diesels.

It really is a special that's tough to give a final mark on. Like again, it's not TERRIBLE, but at the same time I also look at it and think "UnluckyTug was right to retire from the fandom in advance because of it,"

On another note, it's surprisingly airing in Irish cinemas unlike previous specials. I got a surprise upon seeing a poster and trailer for it when I went to see 'Incredibles 2' and 'Skyscraper'. My friends' reaction were kinda funny: "What the fuck, that's a Thomas movie?" and "So Thomas has a girlfriend, um, ok."

Speaking of which, thanks to whoever posted it online!

Thomas, really has has changed. And, it inevitably feels disheartening. Because Thomas has been a major part of my life, seeing BWBA, sorta feels like saying goodbye to a friend that decides to move away and change their entire life. You're not 100% happy about it, but you choose to put on a brave face and wish them the best of luck.

It's now onto waiting to see what the new episodes will be like. If they're anything like the Youtube segments where Thomas narrates a whole story, I'm not looking too confident about it.

(yes even with things like Cyril the Fogman being there. But I personally don't think throwbacks for older fans won't be enough to save the upcoming season's quality)
