On Free Speech and artistic license...
Free speech is not alive and well in the world today. There are countries which like to lie to themselves that it is, claiming that it is enshrined in their Constitution but it is a farce. Consider this: A group of people have a certain set of ideals.  Those ideals are morally repressive and would limit the rights of a category of individuals.  How to advance that cause?  Well, as it turns out, it's painfully simple. The first step is to masquerade the viewpoint under the cloak of so-called "free speech".  The group almost always takes the position that they have the right to air this odious viewpoint, no matter how atrocious, under the gu

OMG - Twilight: Breaking Dawn
Time is the most precious thing we have.  Once spent, lost or squandered it can never be recovered or replaced. Today I had two hours of my precious time unequivocably and unrecoverably FLUSHED AWAY beyond any and all hope of redemption.  The new Twilight movie is without a doubt the WORST movie I have ever had the intolerable and acute misfortune to see in my over forty years of movie-going. The acting was lame and wooden – at best.  The music was saccharine sweet and syrupy.  The plot – if there had actually been one – would have been banal in the extreme.  The only redeeming quality was the cinematography of the honeymoon

Traditional Greetings!
I haven't had much to say lately but I do want to take the time in the last waning hours before Christmas to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 2009 was a rollercoaster ride and I do hope that the pace to 2010 is more sedate... :) :) ;) In any event, the best of the Season to you all!

Hello, random watcher here...

One thing I properly enjoy about your DA profile is how relatable are some of your journal entries (especially that one on free speech)...

Anyway, how was your life going since then? :)

Sorry for replying so much later.  I actually didn't check to see if anyone noticed.

Life is good.  I see some decidedly unusual things happening south of the border in the States (I live in Canada) with the apparrent rise of Donald Trump.  This for me has all the hallmarks of the rise of another propaganda genius, noted for stirring the easily manipulated masses - one Adolph Hitler.  The fact that an opportunist of this sort could conceivably be put in charge of one of the world's largest nuclear arsenals should give anyone pause.

Santayana applies here: those who do not learn from history are condemned to repeat it.  Unfortunately, I do not believe the world can afford another such lesson.

Really late reply, hope you don't mind...

Santayana applies here: those who do not learn from history are condemned to repeat it.  Unfortunately, I do not believe the world can afford another such lesson.

Not a truer word is said. However, I beg to differ on the "world cannot possibly recover from it again" (if I interpreted it right, sleep deprivation is of really no help to me, especially during this time of the year)...

Here's how I always viewed it: Unlike what Faux News & Co. is striving to pander to the masses, our world is always evolving for the better. While it is true that we have seen far better times, there are still numerous, discrete, independent yet effective individual actions out there that makes it so we're always achieving a positive evolution no matter what or when. Making the best out of things, y'know :)

So yeah, this might sound like some hippie dribble to the average Joe, but that's what keeps me going personnally (although given the overall context, it's easier said than done)
